BBC's Idiots Guide to Hijab

BBC Hijab guide

Sister, are you the Amira, Burkha, Shayla, Khimar or Chador? Which one are you? In fact, does anyone really care?

Whichever one you prefer, the BBC have chosen to spend the well deserved license fee that they pocket to 'educate and inform' the wider community about the headscarf and it's many forms. Presumably, this is the BBC’s token gesture at attempting to meet their Integration and Diversity policy. Nice try guys.

This is the same BBC who is entirely responsible for perpetuating ignorant misconceptions and stereotypes pertaining to the Muslim community and Islam.

The BBC is a public service broadcaster and yet their half hearted, pick and mix policy of addressing urgent 'Muslim' issues is only serving to increase the confusion rather than dispel it. We do hope they will complete their tick box exercise and educate us about the skullcap and turban.

I mean it doesn’t really matter if in the process of that concern Muslims are demonised does it? Just look at the recent proposed banning of the niqab , we find ourselves yet again in the maze of oppression the chapter has opened a new era of movement for the sisters in particular, it was not long ago when Jack Straw threatened to possibly ban the niqab because it made him feel so "uncomfortable!"

The United Kingdom, proud of its string of colonist achievements, has flaws and funnily enough the flaws affiliate with Islam.

The likes of Mr British BNP Griffin will jump on the bandwagon and probably will exploit the issue as much as possible, and only then expect the Muslims to rise and defend.

Too Muslim too strong is probably a comment I’ve heard a million times. My hijab without a BBC label will stay safely, securely on my British head. And as ever our Government and media will continue to divide and rule in its land of power and glory.

Double standards anyone?

On one side the BBC claims to be educating people about the Hijab and on the other they churn out rubbish about banning it.

A very insightful analysis.

I would completely agree. The

I would completely agree. The BBC are responsible for the misinformation. For the amount of money they take for the license fee you would have thought their output was more accurate.

Its about time there was some

Its about time there was some true repesntation of muslim life from the BBC! After the crap I keep on seeing in Eastenders anyone would think they are just taking the mick! Dont we pay the licence fee aswell? We should vocally tell them our of discontent with them...the bunch of idiots.

We need more Journalists!

The media is the most powerful Weapon of Mass destruction in this world. It's about time that we armed ourselves with the tools that will get the Truth out to the masses.

Sadly, our parents seem more keen for their son/daughter to be the next doctor/solicitor/accountant ..... losers

good to see sisters.

Im really glad to see that Mpacuk are now writing for the sisters , I felt each time I logged on , it seemed to be too brother dominated . However it makes a change to see something postive come through.
Me and my sister found this a really good article and will definately be telling other sisters to read it.
I now feel happy that Mpacuk are doing things for us girls. well done.

The majority of those that

The majority of those that wear the veil are so politically ignorant that if a ban was introduced tomorrow they wouldn't have a clue what to do.

This is a failing to understand Islam and how to best protect your rights as a Muslim in the nation where you live.

An inactive Muslim is as bad as those that would like to demonise us.

What is this? They massage

What is this? They massage you with one hand in the name of community cohesion and they slap you with the other hand in the name of impartiality. Well, this is what happens when we don't engage with and lobby the media...

The pain of making the necessary sacrifices always hurts more than you think it's going to. I know. It sucks. That being said, doing something seriously creative is one of the most amazing experiences one can have, in this or any other lifetime. If you can pull it off, it's worth it. Even if you don't end up pulling it off, you'll learn many incredible, magical, valuable things. It's NOT doing it when you know you full well you HAD the opportunity- that hurts FAR more than any failure
