Who Have Been Your Heroes and Villains of 2009?

2009

As 2009 draws to a close and the Islamic year begins, let's ponder on the happenings of the past year and reflect who have been our heroes and villains of 2009.

Here are some of my picks:

Villains

1) 1st Place doesn’t go to one individual but to the absolute masters of propaganda, murder and injustice in our times – the Israeli government and its band of organised killers. The year opened with the Israeli slaughter of Palestinian civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza. Over 1000 people were murdered in the Israeli onslaught, and there was widespread use of chemical weapons on the civilian population during the Israeli offensive, which further strengthened the charges against Israel of war crimes.

2) 2nd place goes to most of the UK mosques. The European elections were held in June. Before the elections, there was widespread worry that the far-right BNP would gain seats at the European Parliament if there weren’t enough voters turning out to stop them reaching 6% of the total vote – the threshold they would need to break in order to gain seats at the European Parliament.

The Muslim community in the UK was ideally placed to ensure that this didn’t happen because it could vote in a bloc for one of the mainstream British parties to dampen the BNP’s total vote. In the end total turnout for the UK as a whole was around 30% and, of those 30%, the turnout that was Muslim was abysmal. This is due in no small part to the lack of motivation and education from Muslim institutions as to what threat the BNP constituted and how the EU elections would affect people’s lives.

Since then, the BNP are to be given £5 million a year to spout their Islamophobic rants. We have seen the far-right fascists and Islamophobes invade our streets and cause riots throughout the UK and the climate of hatred against Muslims is set to continue.

3) At number 3 we have the new US president, Barak Obama.

In a June speech in Cairo, newly elected President Obama made a promise to the Muslim world that America would be more even handed in its approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He insisted Israel put an to end all “settlement” activities (read: colonies) in the West Bank as a condition for bringing peace negotiations back on track. It’s now December, and after a blunt refusal by Israeli PM, Binyamin Netanyahu to halt any further colonisation of the West Bank, no further progress has been made.

It’s not really surprising, given Obama’s pre-election speech to AIPAC (the Israeli lobby in the US), where he promised an “unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security” – at the expense of all others, including Palestinians and the wider Middle-East.

4) This place goes to the Muslim community’s very own “Al Halal” supermarket. During the blessed month of Ramadhan, this supermarket proudly sold Israeli Blood Dates and refused to take them off their shelves.

Unfortunately in 2009, the practice of selling of Israeli blood dates by Muslim shops continued. In 2010, let us wipe this scourge from our community by speaking out, raising more awareness of the issue and, ultimately, getting them removed from shop shelves, insh’Allah.

5) I could go on, Muslims have no shortage of enemies, but I’ve decided to keep my list down to five. My 5th villain is none other than war criminal, Tony Blair.

He proudly asserted that he would have gone ahead and invaded Iraq anyway and killed hundreds of thousands of people, even if he didn’t suspect any weapons of mass destruction (let’s not be fooled here – he invaded Iraq anyway even though he knew there weren’t any weapons). He is due to appear at the Iraq Enquiry.

The war-monger should be tried at the Hague on charges of war crimes. If not on this earth, then certainly his punishment with Allah (SWT) will be severe, insh’Allah.

Heroes

There have been some glimmers of hope amongst the gloom. We only have a few heroes to point out, but their mark on our landscape is not to be under-estimated.

1) Our first set of heroes are the Middlesex Council of Mosques, which called a hustings on 28th May for the EU elections in order to grill their candidates.

As more mosques follow this example of asking questions of the people who hope to represent their constituency, greater accountability will enter the political system and the Muslim voice will be given greater political clout. No longer can candidates hope to secure safe votes from the Muslim community. The general election is coming in March or May 2010 and it’s my sincere hope that mosques around the country will be looking to hold similar meetings so that those who want to be elected by the Muslim community address our concerns first.

2) Here we have the person who organised this campaign against BICOM (the British Israel Communications and Research Centre), where activists disrupted their offices operations.

I unexpectedly came across this video and was absolutely stunned. Well done to the people in there who brought more awareness of the Israeli propaganda machine to the wider public and had the spirit to do something about it rather than sit around and talk (or just ignore the issue completely). May Allah (SWT) reward you for your efforts.

3) Another hero is Peter Oborne, who exposed the British Israel lobby and it’s pervasive influence on the British political system through his excellent documentary, “Inside Britain's Israel Lobby”.

The pro-Israel lobby aims to manipulate the debate about Britain's relationship with Israel and future foreign policies relating to it. Oborne examined how the lobby operates from within parliament and the tactics it employs behind the scenes when engaging with print and broadcast media.

The onslaught on British institutions from the Israeli lobby continues with, recently, our Foreign Secretary promising to re-write the British legal system in order to protect the criminals inside the Israeli government.

4) At number 4 we have the team at Noor-ul-Islam Trust in East London. During the Gaza crisis, they brought together the elected representatives of the community (including its MP) and demanded a response as to what actions they would be taking to help our families in Palestine. Then, in the run up to the European elections, they mobilised the local community and organised a rally in order to show solidarity against the far-right. These are the kinds of simple actions, if done on a large scale, will ensure that the Muslim voice is heard and that our situation is altered for the better here in Britain and abroad.

5) Our final hero is the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. PM Erdogan walked off the stage at the World Economic Forum red-faced after verbally sparring with Israeli President Shimon Peres over the Israeli offensive in Gaza. Here is an individual who has refused to stay silent over the murderous activities of the Israelis, while others have looked the other way. He has gained the respect of all God-conscious people in the world.

So these are my picks and the reasons for them. It is vital that we don’t forget the events which are shaping today’s reality for all of us and that we continue to learn the lessons of our past. Never forget what happened in Gaza; never forget the atrocities committed in Iraq under a blanket of lies and deceptions; never fail to hold our institutions to account for what they failed to do. Always believe that a better future is possible if we learn the lessons of our history and make the changes that we want to see.

So over to you. I'm sure we have left many out, so who have been your heroes and villains of 2009?

Villains

1) Iran for it's violation of human rights, 2) Afterdinnerjacket, for supression of human rights ( ie right to free speech, jailing and torturing of his people for expressing opposition to him) 3) The Ayatollahs, for the same crimes as afterdinnerjacket, 4) Islam, for it's attempt to force it's way on to people who want no part of it with terrorism, lies, half truths, deception. threats, etc, and finally, MPACUK, for it's violation of free speech rights by means of censoring all those that oppose it and islam. Oh did i mention Islam?, Oh I did. It is the real villain behind all the rest that made my list for 2009 and probably for 20l0.

Heros

1) Jesus Christ, who is the rock of my faith in good and bad times, 2)All of my brothers and sisters in Christ who call themselves Christians and are persecuted for it. especially in China and Islamic countries, 3) My Pastor, who is a good teacher of what it means to be a Christian and living up to God's word, 3) My fellow members of the elder board of my church for it's steady following of God's will when it comes to the matters of our church, & 4) All those on this website who dare stand up to and suffer the mockings of others, just because you challenge Islam and MPACUK.

I am saddened that MPACUK

I am saddened that MPACUK didnt mention George Galloway, who took 3 Viva palestina convoys... , do i even need to go to explain why Mpacuk should be listing him as a hero.. seriously.. what ??

Good list, didn't know about

Good list, didn't know about half of these things. It's good to see you guys mentioning good work done by some Mosques!

@boomboom, George Galloway is a hero every year. The guy is great.

"Heroes" are haram aren't they??

Heroes:
The people, government and defence forces of Israel, for defending themselves against a genocidal threat from terrorists.
The defenders of freedom and freedom of speech in the West.
The pro-Democracy movement in Iran.

Villains:
Terrorists and the apologists for terrorism.
All those who want to destroy the West's democracy and freedom by terror or other means.
All Jew haters.

I have seen the future...

I have seen the future and it aint clever! Firstly we will rape and murder the zionists and kill and eat there babies for the way they bombed us in Gaza. Then there will be fire in every city in the world, the main feature. What you have seen in the past was just a trailer, the main feature film is about to begin.

May I remind you??

May I remind you that cannibalism is forbidden by Islam, as is rape and murder, especially infanticide.
I wonder what dreadfulness exists within in you that you should conjure up such fantasies.

Heroes: all those with

Heroes: all those with heighted senses of empathy which made them get off their asses and go out and help others across the world, aid workers, scientists working on treatments for malaria, aids, cancer, even those scientists which helped in food production. The main person who deserves hero of the year is Norman Borlaug who died this year but not after helping in saving the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

Villians are any pricks who think it is acceptable and commits an act of morally unnecessary violence against another human being. Whether they are terrorists, soldiers, dictators or thugs on a street corner or some small pathetic serial killer fool they are all a complete waste of space.

THE GREATEST HEROES

The greatest heroes are and always will be the mujahideen who are fighting the forces of evil in iraq, afghanistan, yemen, palestine, and other parts of the world that we dont't here about in the mainstream media. we dont see them, we dont hear about them, they leave their familes, they leave their comfortable lives for a greater cause. The people who fight for the sake of allah.

Allah (swt) said:

Do you consider the providing of drinking water to pilgrims and the maintenance of AlMasMidalHaram (at Makka) as equal to the worth of those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah? They are not equal before Allfih! And Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers). (V.9:19).

Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah-Islamic Monotheism) and emigrated and strove hard and fought in Allah's Cause with their wealth and their lives are far higher in degree with Allah. They are the successful. (V.9:20).

Their Lord gives them glad tidings of a Mercy from Him and that He is pleased (with them) and of Gardens (Paradise) for them wherein are everlasting delights. (V.9:21).

They will dwell therein for ever. Verily, with Allah is a great reward. (V.9:22).

Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home) except those who are disabled (by injury, or are blind, or lame, etc.) and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah (swt) has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward. (V.4:95).

In the first two cases iraq

In the first two cases iraq and afghanistan the mujahadeen which you support as a rule tend to kill huge numbers of Muslims and have only minority support in those nations, the fact that you say that you support them shows that you do not give a shit about the citizens of those countries

its wierd how the numbers of

its wierd how the numbers of muslims reported to be killed by other muslims has risen, since the invasion by american, british and other forces? umm what a coincidence??

Not at all

Actually in afghanistan according to an oxfam report it has decreased

What was that filthy

What was that filthy language(that you managed to remember)going on about?Allah can go and fuck herself with a rampant rabbit she invented it after all!

Only a dirty Zionist talks

Only a dirty Zionist talks like this - their hatred cannot be contained, on the face of it they act all reasonable, but deep below the surface their hatred is buried.

Heros 2

The 500 million to a billion Biblical Christians around the world who hold to God's word called the Bible, defend their faith without any hesitation, suffer persecution, torture, jail, discrimination and death at the hands of those that want them to deny their faith in Jesus as Lord of their lives, and who continue to preach the Gospels to all people despite mockery, threats, and ridulcue from others.

Sarcasm

Was being sarcastic, Q, wanted to elicit a response from a so called knowledgeable. This website seems to be churning out more Zionist posters than Muslim posters!

Unbelievable

What disturbs me is the people who come on here and still support last years military genocide against Gaza.
How low can you go? If the shoe was on the other foot America would be ready to ejaculate before its pre emptive strikes landed in the heart of mosques and hospitals in Gaza City.

My Heros: Hamas

They managed - though the brilliantly conceived 0peration Oil Slick -to reduce rocket and mortar fire out of Gaza from 4000 in 2008 to 200 in 2009. This made it safe for aid agencies to increase deliveries by a staggering 900% in 2009, making life a more tolerable for Gazans.

Believe it!

"What disturbs me is the people who come on here and still support last years military genocide against Gaza."

How can anyone support something that never happened?
