Deputy Prime Minister Admits: "Iraq War Illegal"

Acting Prime Minister Nick Clegg categorically stated that the invasion of Iraq was illegal, as the video from yesterdays PM question time shows.

This comes from the highest man in office to publicly state the invasion was illegal.

The media witch hunt against him will begin in earnest, and he will be forced to retract what he said.

It’s not clear which scenario is applicable:

A) Clegg is not, actually, really bothered about the Iraq War. He was just getting worked up, forgetting his script and ‘losing it’ in his haste to berate a political opponent – chief cheerleader for the illegal invasion – Jack Straw?

B) Clegg really does hold a belief based on principle rather than expediency: the Iraq War was “illegal”. And his ‘gaffe’ marks the first sign of real tension in the coalition?

Carne Ross is as close as to an “expert” there is on the Middle East.

Have a read of what he had to say when giving evidence to the Chilcot inquiry.

“…the UK assessment of the Iraqi threat that were, in their totality, lies.”

A lot of what he said went deliberately missing from the mass media’s coverage, although The Guardian’s Chris Ames’s had an excellent write-up, stating Ross’s evidence was:

“not the sort of words you are supposed to use at an establishment inquiry”

Perjury + mendacity = Cover up.

I do agree with you, he has no power on the subject and probably will never will for the full parliament at least...

but things like these mark a politician. Any politician that able to stick their neck out for the truth like that is worth something......and become very important when holding them to account, especially at election time.....

Whether or not he holds any power is besides the point here, the fact is he is a high ranking fugure who hasn't jumped on the bandwagon of telling lies to justify an illegal invasion

 

Clegg only stating own view

This incident proves nothing about the govt positon on the Liberation of Iraq.

Case in point, he Coalition immediately clarified that Clegg was speaking in his own capacity rather than as Deputy PM. They also stated that an ongoing enquiry was looking at the legal aspectsd of the war in Iraq.

This incident just shows how immature and unfit for office the Lib Dems are. Clegg also made a gaffe about the Home Office and detention at Yarlswood detention centre. This matter was also later clarified.

He is unlikely to be given annother opportubnity at PMQ's in the near future due to his poor performance.

The Lib Dems are finished as a political force due to their betrayal in joining a Conservative govt which is cutting jobs and services and hitting the working man with particularly severe cuts. Their own party members are deserting them. Ppl didn't vote Lib Dem to get a Tory govt!!!

Only those blinded by Islamic identity politics like MPACUK members/associates cannot see this. As recent elections prove; nobody cares about 'Islamic issues' when the economic situation is as it is.

We all know the liberal democrats were against the war because it was illegal ,the U.N secretary Kofi Annan said the same.
but what is need is for Bush-Blair-Brown and countless other war criminals to be face justice saddam style.
that will never happen because it is losers who get lynched not winners, right-justice or morality is just a slogan.

Had Lib Dems received the majority vote

I believe that had they received the majority vote instead of Conservatives then they would indeed have been in a position to
implement the PR voting system which is the only voting system near to proper democracy as the others have a twist and turn built into favour the bigger parties only. Had the population understood this they could then have believed in the realistic chances of other parties getting a chance to get anywhere for a real change.

Also the LIb DEM manifesto was the most fairest socially but unfortunately they had to compromise because the public did not vote for their more people friendly policies.
