SYRIA: OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Protest in Syria

There are a number of Prophetic narrations that talk about Bilad al-Shaam (mainly modern day Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine) and their importance. One such hadeeth is below-

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "There shall not cease to be a group in my Community that shall remain victorious over all people. Allah shall cause the hearts of some to go astray and those shall fight them and receive from them His sustenance, until His command comes to pass as they are in that state. Lo! Verily, the heartland of the Believers is al-Shaam and immense good remains tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection." (Bukhari, Tarikh al Kabeer 4:70)

Right now, our brothers and sisters in Syria are fighting dictatorship. This beautiful, blessed land is suffering at the hands of Bashar Al Assad, and the Free Syrian Army currently does not have as much support as it should have. One has to admire the Islamic spirit of the Syrians of the town Zabadani, characterised by a local teacher Ali Abdelrahman, “The more martyrs there are, the stronger we become and the more volunteers we get.” Another scene which really touched my heart was this scene from Homs, where thousands gathered to openly announce their trust in Allah and that victory was from Allah alone. Their reliance is not on the USA, France, Turkey or anything but Allah. After which, they recited thrice Surah an-Nasr.

Hopefully, I have highlighted to you in this article not only the plight of the Syrian people, but that it is in fact our responsibility as Muslims to defend Shaam, which mainly consists of Syria. It is clear that Al Assad is not the good guy and even if he was (as some theorists claim), then why is his army not protecting the people of Syria?

Do your duty, make a stand against the dictatorship of Syria, as it is your duty and Allah will hold you accountable on the Day of Judgement.
