Where Is The Condemnation?

Mosque attack in america

Islamophobic attacks have struck the USA recently, with eight attacks in just eleven days. Unlike the Sikh community, who have received sympathy from various public office representatives and media spokespersons due to the terrorism committed by Wade Michael Page, there seems to be absolute silence regarding these attacks.

Incidences include a Mosque being reduced to ashes in Joplin, vandalism of Islamic centres and worshippers having eggs and oranges thrown at them and even pellets being fired at Mosques. We have to ask our representatives and those in the media; where is the condemnation? Why are you not doing anything about Islamophobia?

Instead, there are public office representatives making Islamophobic rhetoric openly, such as Chicago’s Joe Walsh who claims that Muslims are trying to kill Americans and other cheerleaders for Islamophobia such as Peter King and Michelle Bachmann.

CAIR (Council on America- Islamic Relations) have asked the FBI to do investigations particularly on an Islamic school in Lombard that had a “MacGyver bomb” hurled at it. Sadly, we do not have many reasons to trust the FBI or other investigative authorities, as revelations such as those from Craig Monteilh and the case of Balayla Ahmad show. We hope that CAIR are successful in their endeavours and that the Muslim community becomes active in defending Islam and Muslims in public life and in politics.

Unfortunately, due to the passiveness of Muslims, they do not realise the importance politics plays and this results in horrendous Catch 22 situations, such as who to really vote for in the US Presidential Elections 2012.
