Poppies and Money

CEO's Blog

This week’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Islamophobia has to go to the rent-a-goon squad of poppy burners. They’re a PR dream come true for Zionists and Islamophobes. Here’s a bunch of Muslims with beards bigger than their brains who happily provide photo-ops of “fanatics burning with hate”.

It’s the same 20 guys every time – from the cartoon protests to the Wootton Bassett march (the one that triggered the founding of the EDL), and right up to this latest stunt. All a Zionist MP like Phil Woolas needed to do to “get the white vote angry” was to plaster pictures of them and their placards all over his election leaflets.

Anjem Choudhury’s gang of professional extremists know how to press exactly the right buttons to turn the average Brit against Muslims. More than a million British soldiers died in the World Wars – most families lost someone. So it’s as if these goons had gate-crashed the funerals of millions of people’s grandfathers to burn the floral tributes while chanting “go to hell!”.

It’s hard to imagine a 5-minute publicity stunt that could cause more Islamophobia, so it’s sadly predictable that Portsmouth mosque was vandalised in a ‘revenge attack’. It took just 20 Muslims to pour so much petrol on the flames of Islamophobia that the rest of us are threatened with an inferno of hate. How is that meant to help our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan?

But my question to the rest of the 2 million Muslims in this country is why are we allowing this handful of self-publicists to represent us?! That may seem unfair – I mean none of us appointed Anjem Choudhury as our spokesperson. Or did we?

The self-styled Islamic 5th Column have the resources to send out daily press releases and have 20 people available to appear in front of the media on a Thursday morning when the rest of us are at work. (Where they get their money from is a different question…).

When we complain about the image of Muslims in the media, is it unfair to ask why we don’t put our money where our mouths are? Alhamdulillah, MPACUK have been able to defend Muslims in the media on many occasions. But until we have the funding for a full-time Press Office we’re unable to do this consistently – it’s simply impossible when we rely on volunteers who have to work around their full-time jobs!

So, in the aftermath of the latest PR disaster to hit British Muslims, I want to make a very simple appeal to everyone who’s reading this. If you’d rather see MPACUK representing Muslims in the media than Anjem Choudhury and his gang then please set up a standing order to make this possible.

Jazak’Allah khair!
