Egypt: Samira Ibrahim is Like All of our Daughters…

The Arab Spring, and the fighters that fight on …

"The girls who were detained were not like your daughter or mine. These were girls who had camped out in tents with male protestors in Tahrir Square, and we found in the tents Molotov cocktails and drugs. We didn't want them to say we had sexually assaulted or raped them, so we wanted to prove that they weren't virgins in the first place. None of them were”, so said an anonymous Egyptian General.

Cowardly, twisted and depraved. That being said, he condoned the virginity test carried out by the evil, callous, and ultimately “not guilty”, Dr Ahmed Adel. A pedestrian functionary of a wicked, brutal regime that has clung on to power, subverted the cause of justice and victimised its own population to cling to power after its Pharaoh Imhotep Mubarak was dethroned.

And what of poor Samira Ibrahim who stood up to the brutal regime and publically held them to account and by doing so, has challenged the social taboo that makes a woman who is sexually assaulted (yes, that is what the Egyptian military did...to our daughters), a willing participant in the ordeal?

Egyptian society has roundly condemned the atrocity. They have been shocked and reviled at the lengths SCAF Mubarak’s high priests have and will go to. They have been shocked that a genuine protester who, fighting a jihad against all of Egypt has risked her life, her limbs and her decency, only for the post-Mubarak SCAF to continue the terror policy and then protect their slimy, perverted functionaries like Dr Ahmed Adel.

SCAF have committed appalling atrocities, killing, beatings, manipulation and now sexual assault to cling to their privilege and power. Yet their continuation of denial exposes them for the venal parasites they have become to the Egyptian public and the world at large.

And Samira Ibrahim, the beautiful young brave lady, the special daughter of Mujahids, Egyptians, Arabs, Muslims and humanity is a girl we can all be proud of. After all, the shame is with SCAF, the western governments that support it, and the scum that is Dr Ahmed Adel. As a Muslim father, I would be honoured and proud to be her father. And as a Muslim man, how ashamed I am that Egypt has a government that humiliates itself in such an appalling way.
