The passionate support for Israel expressed on talkback and comment sections of websites, internet chat forums, blogs, Twitter and Facebook may not be all that it seems.
Israel's foreign ministry is reported to be establishing a special undercover team of paid workers whose job it will be to surf the internet 24 hours a day spreading positive news about Israel.
Internet-savvy Israeli youngsters, mainly recent graduates and demobilized soldiers with language skills, are being recruited to pose as ordinary surfers while they provide the government's line on the Middle East conflict

With the publication of B'Tselem's report that over half the mortalities of the war on Gaza were civilians and included many hundreds of children, it looks as if the Israeli propaganda machine has gone into overdrive as this piece from Jonathan Cook explains.
The need for "hasbara" has certainly intensified as independent human rights groups such as Human Rights Watch push the Israeli government and in particular its army for a public inquiry.How long can the Zionist state attempt to deceive the world into believing that it is supporting the interests of its own people and worldwide security through its actions? The carnage of Gaza can bring nothing of benefit to anyone in the long term.

On the premise that these people work a standard 40 hour week 8 hrs per day at the current exchange rate and average wage ($20,000) this works out to be 1 to 2 people on duty at any one time.
