The Mayor and His Cheap Cheerleaders

Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson’s decisions as Mayor of London in the past have been questionable, to say the least. From big costly mistakes, to fashion faux pas, we’ve seen them all.

Perhaps his most recent slip-up was inviting his ex-wife, Allegra Mostyn-Owen, to be a member of his “Muslim Engagement Task Force”. 2 things:

1) What gives Mostyn-Owen the credentials to be an advisor on “Muslim engagement”?
2) What on earth is a “Muslim Engagement Task Force”?

As this “Task Force” has not been set up formally, commenting on its exact role is tricky, we can however speculate on what makes Boris Johnson think his ex-wife is a suitable candidate for the job. Surely, it can’t have anything to do with her marriage to a Pakistani Muslim man? Or the fact that she volunteers at a Mosque in East London teaching art? Neither of these qualify her to be advising Mr Johnson on “Muslim issues”.

The real concern however, comes from Allegra’s recent online social networking activities. She seems to have expressed her approval of various comments made by Charlie Flowers, leader of the “Cheerleaders Against Everything” group, by way of the facebook ‘Like’ button. The comments attack MPACUK’s Asghar Bukhari by calling him a “Nazi” and gloating about threatening behaviour directed at him. We have exposed the activities of the Cheerleaders before as a group that incite hatred towards Muslims and anyone that defends Islam, run by thugs and convicted fraudsters who have previously aligned themselves with the EDL.

How Boris Johnson thinks someone who endorses such hateful comments by someone who has had alliances with the EDL, is suitable to advise him on “Muslim issues”, is simply incomprehensible.

Let’s hope that after learning of Allegra-Mostyn Owen’s Facebook activities, Boris Johnson retracts his offer.
