The Making of Dictatorships: Freedom to Syria
You may be wondering, what is happening in Syria?
Some Muslims don't even know that Assad has killed more than 5000 of his own people, since the Syrian uprising started against his barbarism.
The catastrophe is that other Muslims are still deceived by Assad's propaganda. What is more disastrous is that some Muslims support him, just because he belongs to the same sect that they belong to.
The biggest enemy of Muslims are their own corrupt and barbaric rulers. Every dictatorship in the Muslim world should fall, including the corner stone of Arab dictatorships - known as the regime of Saudi Arabia.
Dictators have become extremely powerful thanks to the silence of the masses over the past decades. If the people stood up to these dictators earlier on, the dictators would have been toppled easily. If all Egyptians stood up to Mubarak in the first few years of his rule, he wouldn't have been able to consolidate his power for 30 years and wreak that much havoc and destruction on the country.
If Syrians stood up to Bashar's father-Hafiz Assad- earlier on, they would have saved their country from 40 years of corruption, bloodshed and human rights abuses. It is much easier to remove a corrupt politician peacefully at the first sign of his corruption, rather than wait for him to entrench himself and consolidate his grip on the resources of the country. If Syrians had risen 40 years ago, they most likely would have been able to remove this Fascist dynasty from power peacefully when Hafiz and his cronies were still weak.
Corruption and dictatorships are like cancer, if you don't remove the cancerous parts, they only grow stronger and stronger until they become fatal. That's why we need to speak up and expose injustice at its cradle, before it grows to become a monster.
This is what happens when the majority of people remain silent and inactive in opposing oppression and corruption. It is a well known scenario that is repeated again and again throughout history.
Someone comes to power. He tests the water and starts his transgression against the people. The majority sits and watches. Hypocrites aid him in his transgression. He starts consolidating his power and building an echelon of corruption, which grows more and more as the majority sits and watches. When corruption and humiliation of the people reaches a boiling point, the masses go out in demonstrations asking for reforms, only to be mowed down with bullets that the masses have paid for a corrupt government to use; a government they didn't hold to account.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
If you don't hold your government and politicians to account, you are only aiding and abetting them in their corruption and transgression.
Are you going to sit and watch instead of standing up for your rights?
When was the last time you wrote to your Member of Parliament raising issues that concern you?
When was the last time that you participated in any kind of activism?
If you are inactive politically and socially, you are only helping bad Government officials to get away with their wrongdoing and you are allowing social problems to worsen.
We all have an Islamic duty to enjoin good and forbid evil. Do your part now, your activism now could save the lives of your children or grandchildren. If Syrians rebelled against Hafiz Assad 40 years ago, their children and grand children wouldn't be being butchered today.
Are you going to do anything for your brothers and sisters in Syria who are slaughtered every day because of their courageous stance against a barbaric ruler?
