Sheikh Ahmad Kutty: Zakaat to Help Empower Muslims is Obligatory

Ramadhan Mubarak

Muslims are facing oppressive times and as such need to be aware of the importance of giving Zakat intelligently for it to benefit our brothers and sisters suffering all over the world.

Many Muslims send their money to Palestine but the reality is that not much of the aid reaches the Palestinians. The Israelis have blocked six billion pounds of charity to Palestine. To make sure this changes we must get politically active and ensure our politicians are working to pressurise Israel to lift the siege of Gaza.

Anyway, what is the point of giving money to build Palestinian homes and buy plasters for their war wounds when Israel is just going to bomb their homes again and reopen those wounds? What we need to do is tackle the root cause of the problem. We need to ensure that Israel is held accountable for its war crimes. We need to make sure that the people making these laws are educated and are working to bring the Palestinians justice. We need to ensure Palestinian homes are not bombed in the first place and that bullets are not fired to cause injury, or worse. We need to prevent the wounds, not keep on buying the plasters. To not do so is like shovelling snow while it is snowing - a useless exercise, a never-ending cycle of oppression.

Palestine is just one example. There are countless other Muslims that can be helped by giving our money intelligently to tackle the root cause of the problem.

MPACUK is one of the very few organisations that works to tackle the root cause. We are working to ensure Muslims get politically active but we rely on your donations, Zakat and charity to fund our campaigns. No Muslim wants to see their fellow Muslim brothers and sisters suffering. Every Muslim wants to know that their donations are being used in the most effective manner possible.

Muslim scholars have already come out in favour of supporting institutions that tackle the root cause of the problem:

"A principle of jurisprudence states: if a thing which has been considered obligatory cannot be fulfilled without fulfilling another, then fulfilling the latter also becomes obligatory. Thus since protecting the rights of Muslims and empowering Muslims cannot be achieved without such institutions, it is imperative that Muslims support and maintain such institutions.

Muslims should have no hesitation in giving part of their Zakah to Islamic Organisations which is providing a most timely and essential service for the cause of Islam and Muslims." Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, Canada.

The solution is simple: give intelligent charity. Help MPACUK in their work by donating to help our oppressed brothers and sisters everywhere. We will ensure your donations are not wasted and are used in the most effective manner possible. With MPACUK, your donations will tackle the root cause of the problem and will not go to reiterate the seemingly never-ending cycle of oppression.

"A small group. They are the ones who carry ambitions for the Muslim Ummah. And an even smaller group from this small group. They are the ones who sacrifice their personal worldly interests in order to act upon those ambitions. And an even smaller group from this elite. They are the ones who sacrifice their souls and their blood in order to bring victory to these ambitions and convictions. So, they are a small group within a small group within a small group."
