WHAT THE HECK?

pascal abidor

I am honestly confused. The American and Western European definition of a terrorist, as per their foreign policy is now even more obscure. Before it was any Muslim with an opinion that was considered an extremist by the government. However, the case of Pascal Abidor tells a different story.

Pascal is a student at McGill University in Canada and was on his way home to see his parents in Brooklyn, New York for the holidays. While crossing back into the USA on the train, border police stopped and asked him the questions, “Where do you live and why?” He responded that he was living in Canada and was pursuing an Islamic Studied PhD.

Then the officer asked him to take out his passport. Pascal is a dual citizen of both the USA and France and showed his passport to the border police, who saw the stamp that indicated his visit to Lebanon and Jordan. The officer then confiscated his laptop and eventually, even detained him and kept badgering on about why he was interested in Islamic Studies. This traumatised student is now seeking a lawsuit with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

Is this how bad things are getting? Not only are Muslims looked at suspiciously, but anyone who tries to understand Islam or why Muslims may consider acts of terror are being classed and treated as ‘terrorist sympathisers’. It is similar to when the Nazis mistreated anyone who sympathised with the Lutherans, Communists, Jews and other human beings they hated. The greatest terrorist sympathisers are the governments who try to humanise the atrocity of the massacred Afghan civilians and have yet to apologise for the mass murders in Iraq.

This is what can happen if Muslims have no political muscle; we shall continue to be humiliated and abused further by our governments and the media. You can see the fact that George Galloway winning the elections in Bradford West last week, has caused a media and political storm, simply because he speaks openly about the horrendous foreign and domestic policies that predominantly affect Muslims. No one complains about politicians pandering to Zionist demands, but they do indeed complain when George Galloway seems to appeal to Muslim voters (as if we are not British). Our apathy is not only causing problems for us, but those non-Muslims who try to engage with Muslim society in a positive way, may also be victims for absolutely no reason.
