Solihull borough councillor, Jeff Potts, has posted Islamophobic messages on Twitter, which has led to him being suspended from the Tory Party, but he is still an independent councillor.
This is currently being investigated, but we need to make sure the council understand just how serious this is, and that they don’t delay in holding him to account.
Whilst the council has no legal power to remove Mr Potts as a Councillor, they do have the power to:
- remove him from council panels
- make him issue a public apology
- send him for anti-racism training
Use the details below to complain to the council.
Remember the more pressure we put on the council, the more they will be forced to take action and not ignore this.

I am writing to complain about the recent behaviour of Solihull Borough Councillor, Jeff Potts.
The tweets he has shared and commented on, highlighted by the Birmingham Mail, (http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/solihull-councillor-suspended-after-sharing-13660262) demonstrates that he has bigoted views about Islam and Muslims.
Elected councillors are meant to represent all their constituents and not indulge in discriminatory behaviour.
Jeff Potts cannot be expected to represent the entire community while he sees a section of the community in a prejudicial way.
In addition, he cannot be an objective individual sitting on the Religious Education Committee when he is voicing such xenophobic views.
Mr Potts has clearly broken the Council’s Code of Conduct.
It is because of the reasons listed above that I demand Mr Potts issues a public apology, removed from any current council committees he is on (including the Religious Committee) and sent on anti-racism training.
I look forward to your prompt reply.
