On 15th March 2009, Maryam Kallis was detained by the Syrian authorities and taken into custody. Since then she has been held, away from her children without having been given access to any legal representation or even being charged with a crime.
The
UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) claim to be working for her
release, but as of yet have not provided an explanation for her
detention despite gaining access to her two weeks after her arrest.
The FCO now claim that it could be weeks before they are able to gain another visit. Maryam Kallis remains in Syrian custody without any charge and is being kept in a secret location. Action Points
Template Letter RE: Detention without charge of British citizen Maryam Kallis in Syria Dear [INSERT NAME], I write to you to requesting your immediate action towards the public trial or release without charge of Maryam Kallis. Mrs Kallis has been detained since the middle of March in an undisclosed location in Syria without charge or trial. A British citizen and mother of four, she has been denied access to her family who are distraught without her. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office must take all steps to ensure that either Mrs Kallis is tried for a crime or is released immediately and brought back to the UK. I remind you that the UK government has already proven itself to be deficient when dealing with Muslims detained abroad - the cases of Binyam Mohamed and 28 others come to mind. The situation of Mrs Kallis is the perfect opportunity for the government to show that it is committed to human rights and will work for all British citizens and residents who are detained abroad in an equal way. I look forward to hearing from you soon regarding this issue, Yours Sincerely, [Your Name]

Paul M:
Why is MPAC prompting the racist imperialist genocidal and infidel UK government to interfere in the internal affairs of a Muslim country? Will you be calling them to send in a gunboat next?
Surely Muslims who place themselves inside Dar ul Islam should not expect kafr governments to come to their rescue because of some western concept of 'citizenship'?

To give the govt. an oppurtunity to live up to claims of promoting human rights.

Paulm what a pathetic excuse you use to once more deny british citizens of muslim background equality.
The person is a brtish citizen who deserves the same help that british christians-atheists-jews-hindus and sikhs need when they encounter problems abroad. This has got nothing to do with syrias internal issues ,this is about the rights of british people.

Paul M:
Shan - I would think indeed that this is a matter the UK Gov should take up on behalf of a British citizen. I just want to point up the hypocritical attitude of people like you who accuse the UK Gov of being racist, Zionist controlled and genocidal but who run behind its skirts the first time they encounter a real regime in the Muslim world red in tooth and claw.
Like the PLO men during Black September in Jordan or the Fatah men in Gaza who, for all their bravado, fled to the arms of the 'Zionist enemy' when confronted by their Arab brethren.

To Paul M and H. de payne,
I always have been and always will be a BRITISH Muslim. There is no hypocrisy is asking the Government to DO THEIR JOB and acknowledging what they do right, while criticising what they do wrong. If British citizens never criticised or demanded change from the current Government, then what would be the point of having multiple parties or a democracic system in the first place?

Pualm the muslim world is led by western stooges, this has been my view from day one and you are well aware of this.
I have from day one stated clearly that british people of muslim or what ever background need equal treatment, it has been racist and bigots who have attempted to single out muslims. H.de payne who looks stupid can be seen from the remarks given.

MPAC anti-Syrian trash,, as per:
Paul M and others, MPAC have a long-running grudge against the Syrian government that has a number of dimensions.
Firstly, Syria is an *Arab* state - and there is nothing "da bruvvers" like better than to exercise the enormous chip on their collective shoulders about Arabs in general. Secondly, horrifically for MPAC, the government of Syria is resolutely secular and does not take too kindly to the crappy, medieval and entirely sectarian agenda of the bearded bigots favoured by MPAC. Go figure.

Trash Man
You forgot to add how Syria is more than happy to indefinitely detain and torture its own people..

Trash man:
Optimus Prime - however, MPAC are more than happy to promote nonsensical conspiracy theories that let equally nasty other ME regimes off the hook, just so long as the religious loons are more or less in charge in those states?
When MPAC take as much time in criticism of the more religious Muslim-majority states as they do in banging Syria and other more secular Arab states, I will be more impressed by their concerns over the latter.

there is no excuse for your igno:
"Her husband"????
I think you will find that she is *divorced* from her (ex) husband... and he is not making arrangements for them to move back to UK - especially in the light of the fact that she claimed that the Damascus climate suited her disabled son... which may have something to do with her arrest, for not having a residence permit and having overstayed her time in Syria by... erm... a fair few years. Gosh, but that would mean the terrible INFIDEL regime of Syria was not throwing acid in the faces of maidens or denying them education in the face of aweful Zionist plots to overthrow their perfect Islamic state, I presume? Once again, own goal by MPAC, natch.

Shan:
If she overstayed then deport her like all nations do to people who overstay.
As to the syrian regime it is a minority police state government, if you are so confidant hold free and fair elections and see what happens. The infidel regime in syria is busy prostituting maidens so needs their looks.

British
citizen, Maryam Kallis, and her three children had been living with her
sister in Damascus in Syria where she was studying the Arabic language.
Her husband is currently living with her other child and was making
arrangements for the family to move back to the UK.
