Action Alert

BBC have admitted to their mistake of claiming that Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel. MPACUK would like to thank everybody who helped with this campaign by complaining to the BBC of their very offensive error. May Allah SWT reward you for your efforts in the (media) Jihad.

The false claim, which we know by international law not to be true, was made on a program called ‘Feature: Israel in Focus’ which was broadcasted on the 24th of March. See here for our past alert here.

However, this campaign can only be regarded as a part SUCCESS - as the BBC have apologised (albeit after numerous calls and emails from the public demanding the production team respond) but they have only done so by privately emailing complaints. Although this is no doubt good news as the BBC have now admitted their grave error, we here at MPACUK are not totally satisfied with solely just this. Think about it readers, they made their factual, offensive error publicly on a program which was probably viewed by thousands of people. Those thousands of people have been ill informed by the BBC about the status of Jerusalem – a very politically and religiously sensitive area. Thus it is only logical, courteous and acceptable for the BBC to apologise PUBLICLY.

As our campaign grew, more and more organisations joined our call to demand the BBC rectify the matter appropriately. This can be found in our open letter whereby the likes of Azam Tammimi, Arab Media Watch, Dr Naseem and Friends of Al Aqsa be found here and the alert previous to this can be found here.

We urge all readers to take five minutes from your day again and complain to the BBC. A private apology is unacceptable and we must not take this lying down, Jerusalem is a holy sacred land within Islam and we must take action to defend its existence and the rights of the Palestinian people. To read more on the importance of Jerusalem, please see here. Do not sit idle whilst our homeland is need of defence!

Points to consider when complaining:

  • Demand the BBC issue a public apology on their website and not just leave the matter with a private apology – the offensive erroneous mistake was made publicly and hence an apology must be issued publicly.
  • The BBC must ensure something like this does not happen again. We request that the BBC takes measures to ensure that such a profound mistake regarding a very politically sensitive and emotive situation is not made again so a memo must be sent to the production team within the BBC to ensure the message is passed across effectively.
MPACUK have made numerous attempts to speak to the production team within the BBC but to no avail. We have written an official complaint via an open letter and will keep readers informed of the response. Please copy your response from the BBC in our comments section below so we can also monitor the BBC’s reaction to the general public.

Guide to Israel and the Palestinian territories

Why is it in the news?

Who are the Israelis?

Who are the Palestinians?

How was Israel created?

What are the occupied territories?

Have the Israelis and Palestinians
talked about peace?

Why is there so much violence at the moment?

Is the UK government doing anything?

Who are the Palestinian refugees?

Suicide bombers

Israel's barrier

you might want to check it out MPAC

they make the effort of telling you of "suicide bombers" but fail to mention how israel almost everyday murders the Palestinians, no mention of the violence aginst Palestine by the IDF

John Baker:

The BBC are wilfully ignorant on behalf of their powerful masters.

The headlines on the news the other night:

* The bloodiest day in Iraq 'despite the US's attempts to implement security measures'

* Iran becoming 'more defiant' over nuclear issue

* How Londoners are becoming 'more concerned' with immigration

If the government could write the headlines themselves they would choose just this script! (and yes, it is a 'script' as it is pure fiction)

Not to mention the nice comfortable platform the BNP are getting thanks to the publicly-funded BBC who are only to happy to air fascist political broadcasts.

We need to take collective action over the disgusting state of the Bush Blair Corporation as this is getting out of hand.

To start with I suggest getting in touch with Media Lens and Media Workers Against War - get on their email list, get active in their campaigns, and let's stop allowing the BBC to get away with their racist, imperialist nonsense day in and day out.
