| MPACUK Press Release: Iraq Inquiry Opens |

| Thursday, 30 July 2009 | |
The Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPACUK) today calls for a fully
independent inquiry into the Iraq war, and stresses that evidence
should be taken under oath. The inquiry currently being launched will
examine the run-up to the conflict and the country's subsequent
reconstruction. We are pleased that the government has at least finally
bowed to public pressure to allow some of the evidence to be heard in
public, and that the spirit of public accountability is alive and well
within our democratic system.
Although this inquiry advertises itself as demanding answers, it will
in fact bring no one to account for the millions of lives lost in Iraq
and the lives of the soldiers who fell as a result of an unjust and
illegal foreign policy. The man charged with conducting the
proceedings, Sir John Chilcot, was one of the leading members of the
inquiry which exonerated the Blair government for 'sexing up' the case
for war during the Butler Inquiry in 2004.
Catherine Heseltine, a spokesperson for MPACUK said, "Not only is the Iraq inquiry long overdue, it's run by establishment figures and it's already looking like a whitewash. Blair, Straw and Hoon should be at the Hague facing charges of war crimes. Millions of lives have been lost, sectarian divisions are rampant in Iraq, the country's wealth has been looted - all as a result of our government acting as Bush's poodle, backing an illegal war, based on nothing but lies. This horrific war sucked billions of pounds away from the budgets of British schools and hospitals, sent teenage soldiers home in coffins and left us all facing a greater threat of terror here in Britain. We hope this inquiry will not be just another PR stunt designed to hoodwink the public, and that we can learn the lessons of the most disastrous foreign policy decision in recent British history." -------------------- Notes for Editors: The Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPACUK) is a non-profit organisation striving for the political empowerment of British Muslims. Iraq wealth looted oh really "G" as the yanks would say this inquiry already looks like good waste of tax payer money lets not try to convince ourselves like we did not know what was going on i think every1 in this country understood "war on Iraq" the only fail safe point i can think of is WMD's which no one ever found and Tony Blair ever increasingly to become more loved than ever,
just because his party finally pushed him out does not mean that he acted alone, he had the support from majority British public regardless; but what i would most like to know is whether he is going to admit he was wrong, possibly even apologize, i hope there can be some remorse for all those defenceless Iraqi people killed so we can all carry on driving our cars while encourging huge profits for oil sydicate; Do the righ thing Tony Blair
