hijab.jpgEvery so often, some self proclaimed big wig in the public eye decides to bring up the issue of hijab and the endless amount of reasons why it should be banned.

Every so often, us, as Muslims feel annoyed, angry, isolated and misunderstood.

Every so often, some of us think the call for the hijab to be banned stems from something higher than aesthetics.

Every so often some of realise that there is blatant Islamophobia which is causing a threat to our civil liberties.

Every so often, some of us think of doing something to change it, by educating ourselves further. Every so often, some of us turn this education into action and take on the fight.

Every so often, I take on the fight to defend our rights. Every so often I feel like I am too tired to keep fighting.

Every so often I realise that the fight must continue. More than often, I hope that every Muslim would become part of the fight.

Every so often, I wish people would realise that this fight is on going and non violent. More than often I wish we weren’t losing the fight because we just can’t seem to fight together. I wish, believe, hope and pray we will fight, not OFTEN but ALWAYS.

Arggh! Now we have a Muslim who does not know the difference between a hijab and a niqab or a burka.

As far as I know, no one is talking about banning the hijab.

But the niqab and the burka is what keeps Muslims alienated and alienating.

It is one of the ways Muslims have of showing non-Muslims that they hate them and don't want to be contaminated by them, I suppose.

If this is the offence Muslims wish to give to non-Muslims, then they should not be surprised that this is the offence non-Muslims will take.

Nowhere in the Koran does it say "When in a hole dig deeper".

When you are already disliked, should you not ask yourselves why you are so disliked, rather than go around dressed up designed to provoke further Islamophobia?

It would appear that Muslims are their own worst enemy.

It is nonsense to talk of the burka or niqab being an expression of Muslim hatred towards non Muslims. it as ridiculous as suggesting a miniskirt is worn to incite hatred of Muslims!!!
If you actually bothered to talk to Muslims about why they choose to wear a burka, I can tell you none of them would say "because I want to wind up my non Muslim neighbours"
Secondly the Jews were disliked by the Nazis, does that mean they should have sat down and spent time wondering why Hitler didnt like them?? Many of the Jews who perished in the Holocaust were not religious and dressed in a secular manner, unfortunately it did not save them from the concentration camps.

Racists will always blame others for their racism. They try to manipulate muslims by pressurising them to change as it prevents people from discussin their racism.

The truth is that Women are allowed to be degraded in the west but when it comes to modesty, then a muslim women is being forced into it.... this is because white men have always dictated to women that that they must lie about their age and show off their sex appeal otherwise there will be noone interested in them for their intellect.

Q:

Johnny Manning's ideas are bewildering and inaccurate. In the West when patrician communities dominated, women were if anything compelled into "modesty". The "immodest" displays only began as women obtained equality. The imposition of modesty was about controlling women.
Lying about age is a symptom of a situation where younger women appear more attractive to men, and that women fear the march of time and their loss of physical attractiveness to men. This matters to women because women are economically inferior in all societies and thus accessing wealth is dependent upon securing a man. The more unequal men and women, the more powerful this driver. In societies where women are cloistered, their attractiveness, purity (virginity) and compliance is attested to by their fathers through arranged marriages and so on. It is these societies that honour killings are prevalent. These are not free or equal societies and certainly far from happy ones.

Q - Good to see that the west is finally catching up.

Islam gave women economic rights 1400 years ago to own a business, own property, work, inherit from her father etc....

You seem to be indenial regarding women who prefer modesty.

I don't think Muslim women should take any cue from ignorant mainly white men who tell women what they should be wearing. It's not even an issue. It's their problem, it's their racism. Treat them with contempt.

In fact, put on a burqa even if you weren't going to do so before, just to show them that you're a woman of your own free will and no racist little white man is going to tell you what to do.

Just ignore the racists and carry on.

If people dislike you, it behoves you to ask why and address the problem if you can, rather than abuse those who tell you why you are disliked.

It was a Muslim you said to me: "There is nothing wrong with Islam. It is Muslims who are the problem."

There is reality, and those who deny it and refuse to submit to it.

I have no problem about women being modestly dressed. In fact, there is a lovely boutique on the Whitechapel Road called Arabian Nights that sells clothing for women that is both elegant and modest and in very nice pastel colours too.

I do not have a problem with the hijab either.

What I object to is the niqab and the burka, for these reasons:

1) It sets Muslim women apart.

2) It gives a bad impression of Islam.

3) It serves no other purpose that is healthy or beneficial to society.

4) It causes fear and hatred in a society you already know is Islamophobic.

Why do you do it to yourselves?

Andromeda - as you are against the niqba or burka so much I suggest you refrain from wearing it or are you saying that just because you do not want to wear it then others should not have the freedom to either..... .
