Pakistan Win ….. but what have we gained? Print E-mail
Sunday, 21 June 2009
uncle-cricket.jpgPakistan have just beaten Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC World Twenty 20 Tournament amongst jubilant scenes, celebrated by people both in that country and here. One could argue that the victory is a welcome respite from the troubles besotting the Pakistani nation but we must put this win in perspective.

The fervour and enthusiasm of the supporters were clear for all to see but how many of those same supporters care about the problems faced by their fellow brothers and sisters both in Pakistan and elsewhere? Perhaps they are not aware that if they could spend just a fraction of the same money and time on helping others as they do following their superstars, it would bring them greater satisfaction and reward?

Just like the celebrated all rounders of yesteryear, Imran Khan and Waseem Akram, Muslims, too, need to be all rounders and not have a single dimensional approach to life. Personal acts of worship are obligatory but without coupling these with good deeds that provide practical help to the Ummah, Muslims would be playing a very dangerous innings that would make the ultimate victory of pleasing Allah that much more difficult.

Caring about the Ummah with the same passion as supporters following those individuals hitting leather with willow, sensible political participation, holding leaders to account and reclaiming the spirit of true jihad are vital for all Muslims currently playing on the sticky wicket we find ourselves on. Anything else just isn’t cricket.

LOL:

Only MPAC could be so obtuse and plain deranged as to try to connect a game of cricket with a world religion.

You are mad.

Ooh Karachi:

Really MPAC!

It's a sport!! Why do you bring religion into it?

(But if you must, then consider this: those Pakistani fans who were going hysterical over a game, would in many cases go home to look-in on their caged 'women-folk' --- cooking, washing,-- crying, in their village dress (they're forbidden under threat of beatings/rape/'sending back 'home', from wearing any smart clothes, and in public they MUST wear 'crow disguises') -- but you won't face the truth. Instead you go on and on about 'Gaza', Zionists, Ahmedinejad.)

Actually I'm surprised you managed to write all that without once mentioning 'GAZA'. Well done. Things are improving. Also you didn't blame the zionists for it all.

You are supposed to be mpac 'UK'?

Stick with issues that affect UK Muslims IN the UK.

Thank you.

The time we have at our disposal is limited and very valuable. How we use it is vital. You're mad not to see that

@@LOL:

Some of us loathe cricket and find all attempts at linking religion to anything and everything under the sun both desperate, sad and rather mad.

You're quite nuts not to see that.

MPAC need to take a Chill Pill ASAP and get a life of it's own. Course there are problems in Pakistan. The fact that it can compete on a world stage in something is testament to the resilience of it's beleaguered citizens.

You are the perfect example of the blindness that Muslims have come to. Muslims are so lost... MPACUK is doing a great! Please go and get some sense...

The so called muslims were celebrating by drinking, smoking drugs, etc in birmingham. There like sheep they follow but don't lead. when it comes to islam they don't want to even know.

LOL:

I'm not sure how regarding this article as ridiculous means that I am "blind".

It is simply absurd to try and link every single issue (including sport, FFS) to religion in this way. It is a tactic much mocked in the Christian community, where Evangelicals are forever interjecting into every conceivable topic with the now hackneyed rhetoric - "Now, I wonder what Jesus would have said about X"?

It is a measure of the desperation of MPAC - an organisation that has so far this year given a platform for pro-Taliban elements, harassed (possibly illegally) a school secretary because of her body shape and implicitly her sexual orientation, offered sympathy to the mad people of al-Muj, supported the tyrannical and murderous regime in Tehran... shall I continue?

I think it is a desperately sad state of affairs that MPAC are less well challenged in the Muslim community in Britain. Although, this is plausibly because the vast majority of British Muslims want absolutely nothing to do with the grandstanding, opportunism, politically reactionary and frequently plain bigoted views aired on the MPAC site.

For once i actually agree with an MPAC piece. This is nothing more than a soldier on the battlefield dying of its wounds who then has morphine injected into his system to numb the pain. The pain has temporarily subsided, but the injuries are still leading to a slow and imminent death. However the soldier rejoices at the pleasure felt from the morphine.

Pakistan is in absolute chaos and is being overhauled as part of a wider nefarious plot to weaken and divide it. Yet many think all is right because a bunch of people from that country are better than other groups of people from other countries at knocking a spherical red object around with wood.

wow pakistan won and everyone jumps up and down having an excuse to celebrate...while Muslims are suffering worldwide.

If you are so proud of Pakistan then try and solve some of its problems where the real pride lies, not just taking your kicks from a sports game.

You should watch your tongue slickafoe. u are sinning by calling Muslims Munafis. Only Allah can judge not u. Any person who believes in Allah and the Prophet (pbuh) beling the last messenger is a Muslim and not a Kaffir.

Qasim is right but many people are going out of path "The path which shows by Prophet Muhammed to his followers" They are just blindly beliving and going for Worldly pleasures and telling we are following Allah and his messenger

At last we have to follow the Path of Prophet Muhammed.
