Akbar:
Israel as a tourist destination has often been advertised on the tube network - why speak out against it now?

MPAC, perhaps you should start an action alert where all of us could be involved e.g. Printed press boycott, Media boycott etc

Consider what would have been the reaction if the shoe was on the other foot. It doesn't take long or cost anything to send them a quick e-mail.
Just mention that the advertisement is a gross misrepresentation and contravenes Article 2 of the treaty and therefore is against international law.

@ akbar:
the point is that the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights are part of the Occupied Terrorities and NOT part of Israel, thus they should not be included on a map of Israel. They are part of Palestine.

I went to the national demonstration goday and was totally appalled to see the advertisement of Isreal showing the map of Palestine as being their tourist holiday area. Shameful and how can the British government allow this when so many children have been killed in Gaza. I say we petition to get these adverts taken off. Who in their right mind would want to go their when next door to them children are living in rubble and so many innocent people are suffering....shame on these Isreali people.

I saw the ad and looked it up on the Advertising Standard Authority website. thinkisrael.com were advised they were in breach by the ASA. The arrogant zionists did not even bother to respond to the ASA.
http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/adjudications/Public/TF_ADJ_44249.htm The following caption on the israHELL ad "YOU CAN TRAVEL THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF ISRAEL IN 6 HOURS imagine what you can experience in 7 days VISIT THINKISRAEL.COM NOW FOR MORE 4, 7 & 10 DAY ITINERARIES IN ISRAEL". What I propose is we take an ad out suggesting something along the following lines: "You can not travel the entire length of Palestine in 6 hours because it is Occupied and the if you are a non jew the numerous checkpoints will restrict your movement for days at a time. Don't visit Occupied Palestine because only the armed squatters benefit" I wonder if the ASA will have teeth? I wonder if the mainstream zio media will be outraged?

much simpler to say : ' you can travel the entire length of gaza over 6 days curtesy of the israel defence forces checkpoints - and never leave'

Palestine was wiped off the map starting in 1922 when the British gave away 80% to create the Arab state of Transjordan, now called Jordan. Israel occupies only 20 to 25% of historic Palestine. Look up the facts and get them right.

The tourist adverts should be countered with come visit israel and see how we do occupation-oppression and daily humiliation.
see us in action as we harass and humiliate the natives. If you wish to feel what the warsaw ghetto was like come and visit gaza.

I've responded to the alert:
Dear TfL,
I was highly disappointed to see a recent advert on the underground lines advertising Israel. The map on the advert depicts Israel as incorporating the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights. Israeli authorities do not allow any form of expression of Palestinian culture in the illegally occupied West Bank. Whether it is the peaceful protests or the national holidays, or Dabke Dancing and Kafiyah scarves. This advertisement is an obvious show of how the Israeli attitude is sought on eradicating the Palestinian people and their identity. The London Underground, the Advertising Standards Agency and CBS Outdoors – the company which manages the poster sites – are responsible to the public display of these lies. As a taxpayer and user of the underground service, I am demanding that this advert be removed and action taken to ensure that this kind of blatant affront does not occur again. I look forward to your reply on how you intend to deal with this matter. Yours sincerely, Saif'Allah Khalid

I have responded as follows:
Dear Sir/Madam I am writing to express my concern about a recent series of posters that I have seen in a number of London underground stations. The posters are advertising Israel as a tourist destination, which is fine and I have no problem with that. However, what is worrying and totally inappropriate is that the poster shows a map of Israel wherein it depicts Israel as incorporating the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights. As I'm sure you're aware, these aforementioned areas are clearly defined as "occupied territories" under international law, and thus, to have a map including all of them as part of Israel is not only a gross misrepresentation, but is a clear contravention of Article 2 of the treaty, and therefore is against international law. As such, I will also be writing to the advertising agency to complain on this matter. Thus, as you have authority in the regard, I ask that you act accordingly, and get these posters removed as a matter of urgency, until such a time that a more legally valid and socially acceptable poster can be used in its stead. I trust the above is clear, and look forward to hearing your response. Kind regards
