Throughout last night the election results came in and the mind boggling complexity of the Electoral College system confused every one. By the end of the night, the mass of humanity who cared, had reached a sense of nirvana and though no closer to comprehension, a little closer to pretending we understand.
The two candidates fought tooth and nail and beat down the wire. The stamina they showed, the momentum they created, the money they raised and the amounts they spent, not only surprised but shocked the world. Over a billion US dollars were spent, yet what was up for sale? Nothing less than the Presidency of the United States! A real case of Shock and Awe!
And in the end of this titanic fight, both candidates are no different towards how they will conduct their fight against terrorism, how they will conduct their foreign policy towards Israel, and how they will fight the war on Islam. Issues such as homosexuality, gun control, abortion and the economy all played a far greater role than Iraq in taking Bush back to the White House. John Kerry was left a man who really did flip and flop between issues; one who supported the war in Iraq then tried to jump on the bandwagon. The American public though sick of Bush, wasn’t quite terminal enough to want Kerry and his lack of vision or policy. And the case study can be taken and applied to the UK with a public sick of Blair but not quite ready for Michael Howard and his pro-war, anti-war charade. And in both cases, in both elections, one gone in America and one upcoming in the UK, Muslims are caught napping while an older generation cannot comprehend the issue and a younger generation is unprepared.
In the US, the moral outrage and high turnout which were both supposed to benefit the Democrats gave early signs of a Democrat win but by the early hours of the morning they were false dawns. The Republicans had done enough and the Democrats by mid afternoon slunk away to wait for another four years. Yet Muslim have got four years, to join and lobby every conceivable candidate, in the hope that we are not cleansed before the war on terror gets really ugly at home and abroad.
MPACUK does not often produce comment pieces on US policy unless there exists a link to the UK. Even then, rather then lambaste the US, we focus on our own British government and the Ummah that it represents. But the election where Bush has won is a concern for us. A man who has followed the Israeli agenda to the extent where he has invaded Iraq and killed over 100,000 Iraqis for Israel’s strategic security and their dream of a greater Israel and their hegemony over the Middle East. Bush has identified Syria and Iran as his next targets, and is now in power for an untouchable four more years.
The irony is that the Muslims of America are today, in the same position Israeli Arabs found themselves four years ago. They had the choice of voting on the one hand for Ehud Barak, the man who brutally started the killing of unarmed Arab and Palestinian demonstrators, and on the other Ariel Sharon, the butcher responsible for Chabra and Shatilla. While they were being crushed by the Israeli system, Muslims in the west did nothing. Now in America, Muslims are given the same devils choice.
It will take years for Muslims to move into the system. They will suffer discrimination, they will suffer insults and glass ceilings, but they must do it. American Muslims are being treated like a fifth column and Bush will not let up his Evangelical Zionist agenda. He will push through a not so hidden agenda and the reason is because Muslims have not joined both parties in large enough numbers to influence them. And if Muslims in the UK feel smug, let them look at our choices: Blair on the one hand and the Zionist Howard on the other! You see we did nothing while Israel oppressed the Palestinians and now we are finding it coming home. We didn’t give our Zakat to lobbies to protect us; we haven’t spent our time, or our effort in fighting the political and social Jihad. We haven’t even lobbied the media to stop the bias aimed against us. And then we sit back and watch like active participants, the outcome of an election where whoever wins, we lose. PAY UP or PUT UP, MPACUK needs your ZAKAT to fight the enemies of Islam!
