Pioneering London Mosques team up with MPACUK to host Media Workshop road show

“Muslims are a threat to our way of life… All Muslims, like all dogs, share certain characteristics" (quote from The Sunday Telegraph.)

British society is constantly bombarded with negative stereotypes and misinformation about the Muslim community in Britain and elsewhere in the world. Few Muslim institutions have taken any proactive initiatives to improve the portrayal of Muslims in the media. However, this is changing…

In response to the alarming rise of Islamophobia in the media, MPACUK in partnership with mosques across London has launched the “Muslims and the Media” workshops.

Over the years, MPACUK has spearheaded many successful media campaigns:

  • When the Sunday Telegraph published an article entitled ‘Muslims are a threat to our way of life’ MPACUK ran a campaign that got the writer sacked.
  • When the BBC said Jerusalem was Israel’s capital MPACUK ran a campaign that forced them to issue a correction and apology, as Jerusalem is illegally occupied.
  • When Muslims have been demonised over issues from the Sudan ‘teddy bear’ case, to the Shariah controversy MPACUK has sent spokespeople to major media outlets such as Newsnight and GMTV, to defend Islam.

We are now sharing these campaign tools to empower the wider Muslim community. Experienced activists will provide simple, practical solutions through presentations and interactive sessions; including ‘Why Media Matters’, ‘Analysing the Media’ and ‘How to Successfully Lobby the Media’.

Following a successful event in partnership with Waltham Forest Council of Mosques MPACUK is pleased to announce forthcoming workshops during Ramadan, in conjunction with Lewisham Islamic Centre and Harrow Mosques insh’Allah.

“MPACUK has always stressed the importance of the role of the mosques in empowering the Muslim community. The mosques are our biggest institutions and have the widest reach to educate and support our community. Thankfully there are some mosques which have stepped up to the challenge and recognised the need to address the vital task of defending Islam in the media.”, comments MPACUK London representative Raza Nadim

In addition to the workshops MPACUK has prepared resources available to download on its website. These resources include media contact details, how to lobby the media and letter writing tips.

MPACUK invites everyone who recognises the need to fight discrimination to attend these workshops, and calls on mosques to contact us to find out more about educating the community in how to defend itself against prejudice. To enable us to expand the ‘Muslims and the Media’ roadshow MPACUK are appealing for volunteers and donations to support the project.

How come mpac didnt send a few muslims to sudan to convince sudan that they arent following the correct form of islam.
Also if the uk was an islamic state do you think a single muslim here would give a crap about that teacher. Muslims here only pretent not to agree with aspect of shariah law so everyone else feels safe but if we had shariah law the none of you would disagree with any aspect of it.

MPACUK were protesting outside the Sudanese embassy. Your view of sharia is monolithic, you fail to understand the complexities. I'd suggest you go read about it before making silly comments. I wonder what you've ever done to combat the BNP?

Your agument that is should stand up against the bnp is pathetic. Im not a member of the bnp like you are a member of islam also if you says anything against the bnp i would never try to defend the bnp and say but we arent all like that and act like people are blaming every muslim on the planet, when you should be standing up to the violent jihadist who are making everyone else hate islam.

there goes one of your blind rants, mark. Do you approve of lies and falsehood being spread in the media? Answer me please.

If it's 'no', then stop babbling.
If it's 'yes', you'll probably need to go to hospital. Which is it?
