As Naomi Alderman so eloquently puts it in her Guardian article, "I have nothing but respect for the women athletes who are wearing their hijab at the Olympics" "A lot of rubbish is talked about the hijab. Since France banned girls from wearing them in schools in 2004, there has been a steady stream of media stories and comment suggesting that Britain should do the same." she adds. Coupled with this was the Reuters story which, in the same vein, applauded their courage and determination to challenge the stereotypical view of Hijabi women. MPACUK would like to congratulate the brave sisters in their efforts to stand up for their religious rights. At the same time we would like to take the opportunity to extend our best wishes to all British athletes taking part in the Olympics. Go team Britain ! Readers have left 9 comments.

Give me a bell when a hijabi actually wins something.
And for goodness sake don't tell me its the taking part that matters. No no no, if you are not in it to win stay at home.

Well Hijab is more than a head scarf. Nevertheless I'm sure some tabloid readers sat there thinking "oh my God, they are allowed out"! Inshallah best luck to all.

It's
refreshing to see the Hijab being portrayed in a positive light for a
change. It took some brave women who took part in their sporting
activities whilst following their religious dress code to prove that it
can be a symbol of liberation and personal choice to wear the hijab
even when stereotypical negative connotations are attached to this
religious attire.
