Norman Finkelstein speaks out about Hizbullah and Lebanon.

Norman Gary Finkelstein (born December 8, 1953) is an American political scientist and author, specialising in Jewish-related issues, especially the Holocaust and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. A graduate of SUNY Binghamton, he received his Ph.D in Political Science from Princeton University. He has held faculty positions at Brooklyn College, Rutgers University, Hunter College, New York University, and most recently, DePaul University, where he was an assistant professor from 2001 to 2007.

Beginning with his doctoral thesis at Princeton, Finkelstein's career has been marked by controversy. A self-described 'forensic scholar,' he has written sharply critical academic reviews of several prominent writers and scholars whom he accuses of misrepresenting the documentary record in order to defend Israel’s policies and practices. His writings, noted for their support of the Palestinian cause[1] have dealt with politically-charged topics such as Zionism, the demographic history of Palestine and his allegations of the existence of a "Holocaust Industry" that exploits the memory of the Holocaust to further Israeli and financial interests. Citing linguist and politicial activist Noam Chomsky as an example, Finkelstein notes that it is "possible to unite exacting scholarly rigor with scathing moral outrage,"[2] and supporters and detractors alike have remarked on the polemical style of Finkelstein's work.[3][4] However, its content has been praised by eminent historians such as Raul Hilberg and Avi Shlaim,[4] as well as Chomsky.

Amidst considerable public debate, Finkelstein was denied tenure at DePaul in June 2007, and placed on administrative leave for the 2007-2008 academic year. Among the controversial aspects of this decision were attempts by Alan Dershowitz, a notable opponent of Finkelstein's, to derail Finkelstein's tenure bid.[3] On September 5, 2007 Finkelstein announced his resignation after coming to a settlement with the university on generally undisclosed terms.[1][5] An official statement from DePaul strongly defended the decision to deny Finkelstein tenure, and asserted that outside influence played no role in their decision. The statement also praised Finkelstein "as a prolific scholar and outstanding teacher."[6]

On May 23, 2008 Finkelstein was denied entry to Israel because, according to unnamed Israeli security officials, of suspicions that "he had contact with elements 'hostile' to Israel". Finkelstein was questioned after his arrival at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv and placed on a flight back to Amsterdam, his point of origin. He was banned from entering the country for 10 years.[7]

Very brave man for making those points. No doubt the truth of his words will have steam coming out of the ears of the warmongers who disguise themselves as 'civilised democracies'.

Please explain, MAQ, why you describe an American citizen expressing anti Israel sentiments on Lebabon TV as "a very brave man". Now, if his comments had been even a fraction as critical and directed at Hizbollah instead, I wouldn't give much for his chances of reaching his hotel from the TV station in Beirut safely. Now, there indeed would be a very brave man".

wow! a slap in the face! about time too, but like he said, " no self respect", you could slap, punch spit or even urinate on their faces...and it won't make a difference.

The main question is, How does the situation get resolved?

who is tying the hands of those who want to resist and do something about their situation? the people who rule them...what would the prophet do?

shame I dont know enought to have a solution :(

Brave for speaking out against the policies of warmongering elements within the US and Israel.

Brave for speaking out in the face of a smear campaign designed to label such voices as anti-Semitic.

Brave to speak out against the veil thats being cast on people, portraying rogue states such as the US and Israel as doing no wrong, while showing the other side to be completely wrong.

Brave for not letting the Israeli policy of trying to shut out objectors of its policy affect his position.

Brave man, who makes humanity proud.

MAQ -
I'm sure we disagree on every aspect of Middle East policy, but neither of us living in the UK needs unusual physical or moral courage to express our views here.

As for the American Finklestein, I myself find him really weird both in his persona and views, but I insist that he is not now nor has ever been in personal danger as a result of his views. So it is ridiculous to say that he is very brave, especially considering that those who are brave enough not to share his views face kidnap and summary execution in the Lebanon every day.

Come on, MAQ, you’ll have to do a lot better than Finkelstein if you’re looking for a “brave” hero.

"i don't know much about hezballah or about their policies and people have the right to defend them selfs from invaders and people who want to destroy their country" exactly, the jews have this right and Lebanon has been invaded by Muslims it used to be a Christian county (welcome to jihad) now hezballah ( allahs party) is a larger force and trying to overthrow the government backed by iran and Syria and launch attackes on israel again. it all about religon islam must rule and spread, the jews must be killed or subgigated under islamic law read the Isalmic texts its all there. Filkenstein hasnt so he can only see it through his lefty liberal sence and sees that any reponce to jihad as a bad thing instead of who started it, war with the jews? 911? why the crusades happened? invoking a tit for tat response leads to the final question of who's got the evil books? "mien kamp" means jihad in arabic just a clue for you all. Grand mufi of Jerusalam was hitlers best friend in ww2 ss handzar div were all muslims givern to hitler by him jews had to wear special clothing well before ww2 in 13th century granada and 7th century persia by their muslim overlords. Filkinstien is a fool.

It seems for some people the truth is anti-semitic,what next anyoe mentioning the occupation of palestine is anti-semitic.

It seems when the argument cannot be beaten it is always good to have the anti-semetic label around.

Well done to all those who show the ugly face of zionism for what it is.

Er he's Jewish. He's not anti-himself now is he! You mean he isn't a Zionist. There is a good reason for that. He has a brain.

And you are one messed up extremist Zionist.

The truth hurts you so much that you have to resort to blatantly lying smearing and FUD mongering.
