Israeli jets hit Gaza despite Hamas offer of truce Print E-mail
Friday, 14 March 2008

17_02_2008_massacre_s.jpgIsraeli fighter jets have hit targets in the northern Gaza Strip after a dozen rockets were fired towards southern Israel, the Israeli military says.

Thursday's developments effectively ended a tacit truce respected by both sides since March 8, and came a day after the deaths of several Palestinian fighters at the hands of Israeli forces.
However, a senior Hamas official told Al Jazeera that efforts by Egyptian mediators to end the crisis between Israel and the Palestinian group were continuing.

He said they were discussing terms for reopening the Rafah crossing with Hamas and the Palestinian Authority both having a role.

Israel's army radio reported that Omar Suleiman, the Egyptian intelligence chief, was due in Israel next week to try to advance truce efforts.

Rocket attacks

The Islamic Jihad group fired more than one dozen rockets from the Gaza Strip early on Thursday but they caused little damage and no injuries. “The Israeli air force raid targeted a rocket launch that was ready to fire in the Beit Hanoun area in the northern Gaza Strip," an Israeli army spokesman said.

"Two of the rockets exploded at Sderot, damaging a building, but without injuring anybody." Palestinian hospital officials said no one was hurt in the Beit Hanoun air raid. Thursday's violence was preceded by the slayings of five Palestinian fighters in the West Bank. Palestinian security officials said Wednesday's dead included Mohammed Shahada, 48, a senior leader in the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, and Ahmed al-Balbul, 48, a senior official in al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed group loosely tied to Fatah. Two others were identified as Imad al-Kamel and Eissa Marzuk, both from the Islamic Jihad.

Bethlehem burials Shahada and the others were buried in Bethlehem on Thursday. Their bodies were wrapped in Hezbollah flags, and dozens of mourners chanted support for the Lebanese Shia group. They were killed by undercover Israeli units in the middle of Bethlehem just after they had finished dinner in one of the city's restaurants. “Yesterday in Bethlehem we demonstrated once again that the state of Israel will continue to pursue and strike all murderers with Jewish blood on their hands," Ehud Barak, Israel's defence minister, said on Thursday.

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president who suspended talks with Israel after clashes in recent weeks led to the deaths of more than 120 Palestinians, condemned Israel's "ugly crime" in Bethlehem.
"The Palestinian Authority holds the government of Israel responsible for all the consequences resulting from these brutal crimes against our people," he said in a statement.

In Gaza, about 3,000 Palestinians marched to protest aganst the Israeli raid in Bethlehem, and Hamas blamed Israel for the renewed violence.

Abu Obeid, a Hamas spokesman, threatened retaliation against "all of the Zionist colonies and towns around Gaza".
Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli forces killed Saleh Karkour, 27, another Islamic Jihad activist, in Saida, a village near Tulkarem in the northern West Bank.

MPACUK Comment: Interestingly enough, a story, which is from the BBC was published Wednesday 12th March, discussing how Palestinian militant group Hamas has set out for the first time conditions for a truce with Israel to end violence that has cost 125 lives in a week. Former PM Ismail Haniya called for an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza and the re-opening of its borders in return for halting rocket attacks. He said the deal had to be "reciprocal, comprehensive and simultaneous" and that the "ball is in Israel's court". The Hamas offer comes after a lull in violence in Gaza in the past few days. Yet the article above seen on Al Jazeera, which was published Thursday afternoon, clearly mentions the murder of 5 Palestinians.

So what we have here is Hamas offering a truce, followed by some rockets fired by Islamic Jihad which caused no injuries, but Israel then responding with an air raid despite Hamas' offer, killing 5 Palestinians. How many more examples of collective punishment does the West need to see before Israel is charged with war crimes? How many more innocent civilians will have to lose their lives before the YOU take action?

Is Israel not supposed to fire back at Islamic Jihad?

How is Hamas's promise for a cease fire worth anything if there are still people firing rockets into Israel?

If Israel hit targets in response to the rocket attacks, as you say, then why are you making it appear that Israel is the aggressor.

Answer: because you support terror, as you always have.

Is there something very fundementaly wrong with your logic and ability to grasp facts, even from your own 'pen'?
You state clearly that Hamas offered a truce & then Hamas followed this up with indiscriminate rocket attacks upon Israel. That's acceptable to your corrupt minds.
However when Israel responds, by your own admission, and targets terrorists and kills 5 you complain it is a crime. Your logic is scewed.
If Hamas wants a 'truce', it certainly knows how to go about it, send our truce rockets into Israel then they will know we mean peace. The reality of the past shows Hamas/Hezbollah/Fatah truces have only been a cover to regroup.
Think about it, then you will see how stupid & dangerous you are, not only to your community but the wider population as well. All you are doing is stirring up hatred on a patently absurd but racist agenda.
Grow up, act responsibly and cease promulgating lies, hatred & the incitement of your readers, most of whom know very little, if anything, of the history of the Jewish people & their ancestral homeland.

This is how one courageous Muslim, Algerian Mohammed Sifaoui, equates Islamism with facism and naziism - Read this good people:-
http://www.meforum.org/article/1870

Also read this op-ed in the Kuwait daily Al-Watan refering to the murderous terrorist attack on the Jerusalem yeshiva last week -
‘This odious and inhuman terror attack exemplifies the extremist and inhuman path of the terror organizations Hamas and Hizbullah.’ The writer goes on to assert that ‘the terror attack must prompt the free world to comprehend the magnitude of terrorism and its threats and to realize that a clear and unequivocal stance must be assumed against it. There can be no negotiations with terrorism that indiscriminately aims itself at students, women and babies without any consideration for the means and the targets.’ Contrasting the terror attack with the IDF's operations in the Gaza Strip, the writer explains that ‘there is no link between a murderous terrorist act and the inadvertent killing of civilians in response to the firing of rockets by Hamas.’

Therin lies the truth as spoken/written by Muslims, not Americans, not Jews, not Christians, not the western media.

Killing 5 murderers belonging to organizations classified as terrorist in the UK does not qualify as an example of "collective punishment". Do you happen to support terrorists? Do you feel sympathy for them? Does your heart bleed when they get killed?

As I wrote you yesterday and you have refused to put my comments up, I will offer you a further opportunity to show how "democratic" your blog is.
Your argument that Israel is committing "war crimes" is blown straight out of the water by your very own hand.
The sequence of event to "prove" your point is exactly in the following order - in the first instance you write Hamas is offering Israel a truce, "... followed by some rockets fired by Islamic Jihad which cased no injuries". (So it doesn't count then if, thank the Lord, no Israelis were injured or killed).
Secondly, and remember this is the sequence of events as written by you,"...Israel then responded
with an air raid, despite Hamas' offer of a truce, killing 5...".
By your own hand you state Israel responded to rocket attacks.
And then you have the audacity to call Israel's responce a "war crime".
You are either deliberately whipping up anti-Israel & anti-Semitic feelings, hatred & bigotry included, amongst your Muslim readers or you are just plain stupid. I plumb for the former.
As far as you are concerned it is acceptable for a party to offer a truce, followed by rocket attacks from its territory but not acceptable for the victim of the rocketing to retaliate. Your spouting hateful & dangerous rubbish with only one agenda in mind, as mentioned above.
Will you dare print this? If not I will have to consider other options.

Yesterday again, I submitted the items below to show not all Muslims are bitter, full of hatred, but some can and dare take a responsible view of event. Both these items do not turn facts on their tails to give hateful raison d'etre, which result in one party hating another, unlike your disgraceful effort above.
Readers, if you wish to see a balanced view of the current Israel/Arab dispute, please click-on & read a very brave Algerian, Mohammed Sifaoui -

Next, a Kuwaiti newspaper has published what for the Muslim world is unprecedentedly harsh criticism of the terror attack which killed eight students at Mercaz Harav Yeshiva, from Al-Watan last week -

‘The attack at the yeshiva was a barbaric murder of eight children who were engaged in religious study', says the daily Al-Watan.
Well, these brave Arab souls say it all, unlike your bigoted, hateful and dangerous blog.
Telling the truth and not fitting & playing with events to suit the writer is an old maxim of journalism. Are you up to the challenge of truth?

The basic question must be can Haniya deliver a ceasefire and ensure that no forces operating in Gaza breach that ceasefire? IMO Haniya lacks sufficient credibility with the Israelis for his offer to be meaningful, and it is far from certain that the political wing of Hamas has authority throughout Gaza. Haniya is plagued by the same problem Arafat faced. The problem is that the Palestinian national movement is not a coherent entity. Instead it is an amalgam of loosely associated groups which do not even share a common goal. Each of these groups maintain their own armed forces. There is no overall authority to which these groups are bound and no mechanism to enforce any element of discipline.
It is all well and good for us all to demand that the Israelis engage in the peace process. But until there is a single credible national entity that represents the Palestinian people and is willing to exert its authority over the disparate / dissenting elements then the Israelis can effectively ignore any offers of peace as meaningless.
What is needed is a real political revolution in Palestine so that the inheritors of the feudal elites and the tools of foreign dictatorship are swept away. The internal political problems the Palestinians face are in fact not dissimilar to those that MPACUK struggles with in relation to the mosques and community representation.
