Moazzam Begg, a US detention camp detainee and accused "enemy combatant" and Annie Machon, a former MI5 counter terrorism officer and whistleblower will be among the speakers at a debate in Beeston, Leeds. Extra-judicial detention, the nature of the threat of terrorism and the effect of alienating communities will be debated.

Moazzam Begg is a very impressive speaker - I've read his book and am astounded he's managed to come through what he's been through at Guantanamo and Bagram, and still cling fast to the idea of justice, rather than vengeance. If only the 7/7 bombers, who'd never suffered injustice personally, had had the intelligence and strength to hold fast to Islamic means of tackling injustice.
