Action Alert! Muslim lives are worthless. Complain about BBC's blatant double standards! Print E-mail
Tuesday, 05 February 2008

actionalert.jpgIs a Jewish life worth more than a Muslim life and thus more deserving of making headline news, whilst the suffering of 1.5 million Palestinians is virtually ignored? As a licence payer you have the right to make the BBC accountable for providing balanced coverage.

We were astonished to see the BBC's blatant double standards today as Muslim lives were treated as worthless in comparison to those of Israelis. The headline coverage of the killing of one Israeli civilian in a suicide bomb attack was in stark contrast to the virtual silence when it comes to Palestinian deaths and suffering in Gaza.

The BBC has virtually ignored the fact that the Palestinian civilian population has been subjected to a barbaric siege, sealed off from the world and 'collectively punished', in contravention of the Geneva Convention.

Lobby the BBC for Fair and Balanced Reporting

As a licence payer you have the right to make the BBC accountable for providing balanced coverage. Is a Jewish life worth more than a Muslim life and thus more deserving of making headline news, whilst the suffering of 1.5million Palestinians is virtually ignored?

What to Say

Here some points you can make in your own words:

Programme: BBC News
Aired on: BBC 1
Date: Monday 4th February 2008
Time: 6pm and 10pm

* One Israeli woman was killed and this made headline news. In contrast, there has been very little coverage of the Gaza siege, often no coverage at all on many days - and yet it is reported that 76 people have been killed since 1 Jan 2008.

* The BBC News website article about the attack provided no details of the suffering of the Palestinian people and the number murdered by Israel's incursions into Gaza and rocket attacks, making it a very biased piece.

*Israeli targeting of civilians and violations of human rights have been clearly documented by credible Human Rights monitors, such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty and B'Tselem. These should be fully covered in the BBC’s reporting.

* Many more Palestinian civilians have been killed by the Israeli army and armed settlers, than Israeli civilians killed. This reality should be reflected in BBC current affairs coverage.

* This reporting demonstrates that the BBC is still failing to address the bias documented in the research by Glasgow University Media Group, ‘Bad News from Israel’, published in 2004.

* The news footage showed Palestinian children in Gaza who were said to be handing out sweets to celebrate the suicide bombing. However, the BBC did not show Israeli children signing missiles being fired into Lebanon during Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 2006 (AP Photo/Sebastian Scheiner: Israeli girls write messages on a shell at a heavy artillery position near Kiryat Shmona, in northern Israel, next to the Lebanese border, Monday, July 17, 2006).

Background Information

Israel has blocked off fuel and supplies to Gaza in “retaliation” for rocket attacks on Israel conducted by a minority of the population.

Official Israeli sources say that about 150 homemade rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel since Israel commenced this latest raid. Two Israelis have been slightly wounded and several others treated for shock.

Israel has retaliated with firing from tanks and attacks by F-16 aircraft firing Hellfire missiles into Gaza's neighbourhoods. At least 76 Palestinians have been killed and another 293 injured since Jan. 1, officials here say.

Looming Health Crisis

How will the injured get treatment when not even life-saving medical services are on offer any more? "We have to choose between cutting the electricity on babies in the maternity ward, cutting it to heart patients, or shutting down our operating rooms," says Dr. Mawia Hasaneen, director of emergency at al-Shifa Hospital, the largest in Gaza.
The World Health Organisation released a statement Jan. 22 warning of serious health difficulties arising in the Gaza Strip, isolated by the Israeli siege, the Egyptian border and the Mediterranean Sea.

BBC Bias Documented

Glasgow University Media Group, ‘Bad News from Israel’, published in 2004. “There was a strong emphasis on Israeli casualties on the news, relative to Palestinians (even though Palestinians had around 2-3 times the number of deaths as Israelis).” There was also a lack of balance in the language and style of reporting – with Israeli casualties reported in emotive language, humanising the Israeli casualties, but not the Palestinian casualties.

I watched BBC 10 o'clock news last night and I was OUTRAGED by the blatant bias and double standards. I've been listening to the deafening silence from the BBC on the reality of the suffering caused by the collective punishment of 1.5 million Muslims in Gaza - thanks to this Action Alert I've now sent in a complaint via the BBC website. I'm sure if enough of you bother to complain they'll take it seriously. Thanks MPACUK for kicking me into action on this!

I just googled 'civilian killed Gaza January 2008 BBC' and the only reference I found was: "Clashes... near the Israel-Gaza border, with dozens of militants, and some civilians, killed in recent months."

Oh well, just some Palestinian civilians killed, no need to clear the headline news for them - 3 words in 1 article will do. We can't allow the BBC to treat Muslim lives like this. Is there not a hadith that says that these are more precious than the Kaba itself?

MPAC

I cannot thank you enough for being the only Muslim organisation naking a stand on this issue.

What we have all got to realise that the BBC has been infiltrated by Israelis. It wouldn't surprise me if people with dual Israeli/British nationalities actually work for the BBC.

Thus in the guise of the 'British' Broadcasting Corporation, they carry out their Tel Aviv masters' bidding.

How many Palestinians work for the BBC? Exactly.

Zionism is a virus that has so infested the British establishment that it will take years for it to be eradicated. Fortunately, now that British Muslims are getting more articulate and media-savvy (thanks to people such as MPAC), the Zionists' days in the limelight and their grip on the levers of influence, are numbered.

Then will the world have Shalom!

The BBC has given ample and critical coverage to the siege inflicted by Israel to the population of Gaza.

In this case, the death of one israeli made substantial news because this was the first suicide bomb attack in a year.
I hope that this brief explanation might help to dispel your persecution complex.

Let me add that from what I hear in muslim forums, rather than being outraged by the BBC double standard we should talk about the muslim double standards. For you obviouly the lives of a Palestinian is much more worthed than the life of a sudanese muslim or an iranian woman about to be stoned. Because I have never heard your outraged voice complaining about these muslim that must be certainly worthless.

And finally talking about different worth, let me remimd you that in your religion the word of a woman is worth half the word of a man. This sick idea was repeteadly confirmed by Ibrahim Mogra on BBC Beyond Belief programme in december.

I am completely disgusted at the BBC's biased reporting! Thanks MPACUK for highlighting this. I have sent my complaint and I hope other people reading this will also do so. The BBC is sure to take notice of this if enough people were to bombard them with complaints.

Jzk ... have called them up with the help of your alert.

Well done guys.

You guys!

You just can't help letting the cat out of the bag, can you. Well as long as there's a delete key.

In keeping with this, I see you've hidden that virulently antisemitic, pro-terrorism video that you had at mpacuk.org/content/view/4361.

Oops - it's still on Google's cache.

Darn it - now you have to issue one of your "cut out and keep" apologies to offended Jews. I'm sure you've got a couple on file - remember the time you depicted Jews as having horns? Or that tasteless "pound of flesh comment" you er..accidentally ran.

Just fish one of those apologies out and adapt it. Say that you didn't realise the youtube video you linked to showed some Jews with a caption reading "pigs and apes". At the same time, say that you thought it was all about "peaceful inner struggle" Jihad (despite the touching tributes to terrorists).

Awaiting your next hit-and-run antisemitism article.

I have seen a huge amount on the BBC about the so called siege of Gaza of late. The website also has recently been displaying a great deal of material about the conditions in Gaza etc.

Thus it occurs to me that your complaint about fair and balanced reporting is extremely wide of the mark.

It is odd that your website rarely if ever contains material about terror within the muslim / Arab world. I don't recall seeing anything suggesting shock or outrage at the recent double suicide bombing in Baghdad in which scores of people were murdered by two Downs' Syndrom bombers. Why don't you condemn that?

YOU ASK - Is a Jewish life worth more than a Muslim life..?

In Jewish law the answer is a very definite NO as taught by the rabbis and has been so for millenia. All life is sacred, whether Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddist, agnostic etc etc. There is absolutaely no one life more sacred than another of whatever belief. This is unlike Islam which encourages its followers to destroy any who either do not believe in the creed or will not submit (islam).

How interesting!

I wonder if the pro-Israeli posters above work for the BBC?

All sane human beings should condemn the evil activities of the Waffen-IDF!

And the BBC must start describing the Waffen-IDF as a'terrorist' organisation.

When the BBC next does a 'Children In Need' hoohah lets make damn sure they don't forget the Palestinian Children and what the beastly behavious of Tel Aviv is doing to them.

what kind of sick planet do you live on?

You are a typical example of the paranoia that exists on this website.

There is no zionist conspiracy - if there was it would be so sophisticated that you wouldnt even know about it.

I suggest you research Darfur properly, when you do you'll realise the myth that is Arab v Black.

"...all parties involved in the Darfur conflict - whether they are referred to as 'Arab' or as 'African' - are equally indigenous and equally black...From the cultural point of view, one can be both African and Arab...The implication that these are two different races, one indigenous and the other not, is dangerous."

Mahmood Mamdani, Herbert Lehman Professor of Government and Director of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Columbia, New York.

"Characterising the Darfur war as 'Arabs' versus 'Africans' obscures the reality. Darfur's Arabs are black, indigenous, African and Muslim - just like Darfur's non-Arabs."

Alex de Waal, director of Justice Africa (London) and author of "Famine that Kills: Darfur, Sudan, 1984-5," published by Oxford University Press.

I can provide more if you want.

Next time, before you type, just try to use a little initiative and do a teensy bit of research rather than relying on what you've been drip fed by the mainstream media.

You might shock yourself and actually learn something

The truth is that journalist are no longer true principled journalists. Instead many unfortunately think that they are playing to an audience that holds the same bias and values as themselves.

For example how many sport commentators are truly unbiased, especially when England are playing. Equally so how many journalists believe they are playing to an all white audience.

Much has been made of muslims being brainwashed but if trying to turn fiction into fact as some journalists try to do, and that on national television, isn't brainwashing then what is.

I think the fact that pro-Israeli commenters are so upset by this Action Alert just proves how effective this type of campaigning can be.

Sorry but Muslims pay the licence-fee just like everybody else and we're not going to see this kind of anti-Muslim bias and "just suck it up" as you suggest.

Zubair - I was commenting on the lives lost on Dharfur and asking why the life of an Arab (Palestinian) combatant is worth more than the lives of a thousand (Black) Darfuris.

I was not commenting on the ethnicity of the perpetrators in Darfur.

Your comment is fairly typical of those I read on this site - 'Darfur is complicated, so if hundreds of thousands have been slaughtered and millions made homeless you can hardly expect us to be concerned.'

Dave,
Despite the wonders of propoganda the loss of power was limited to Gaza City and represented only that which is generated locally. Israel and Egypt continued to supply the 80% of Gaza's needs as usual. Water flowed except in Gaza City due to the loss of locally produced electricity.
Interesting to note that Egypt now repiorts that approximately $1millions worth of counterfeit currency was used by Palestinians to buy goods from the little shops in Rafah after the break-out. Not a very nice way to treat your friends and neighbours.
