Muslim youth stabbed to death Print E-mail
Tuesday, 18 December 2007
ahmedhassan.jpgThree teenagers were taken into custody after a Muslim youth was stabbed to death in a possible racially motivated attack in Dewsbury West Yorkshire, police said on Monday.

Seventeen-year-old Ahmed Hassan, a sixth form student at Heckmondwike Grammar School, was attacked near the town's railway station on Sunday afternoon.

Hassan was on his way to Manchester for a shopping trip with a friend when he was stabbed in the heart. His friend held him until the emergency services arrived. He died later at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and later released. But three other young men aged 17, 18 and 19 who are all believed to be white were still being held for questioning.

Shahid Malik, Minister for International Development and MP for Dewsbury said that Hassan was a model citizen who had simply found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. He said the police were investigating whether the attack was racially motivated.

"This was a complete innocent, a young man who has no history of trouble. He was a model pupil and a model citizen and he encountered people that have evil intent," Malik said.

He said the stabbing had cast a shadow over the area, which was preparing to celebrate Christmas and the Muslim festival of Eid.

"Police would like to appeal for anyone who may have been passing through Dewsbury railway station at around 1400 hrs who may have witnessed the incident and be able to help police with inquiries," a police spokesman said.

I pray for his family so that they may find peace in this most devastating moment and hope Allah accepts his death as a shaheed for he was unjustly killed.
after watching documentaries on tv it seems the demonisation of muslims is having some effect with some sections of the community.

This murder was an act of provoc: Quote

...against the Muslim community committed deliberately just a few days before Eid. MPACUK should follow the investigation closely before the case is put on the back-burner (as happens with racially motivated attacks in the UK).

The fact that this young man's life was taken away in such tragic violent circumstances is not only tragic but disgusting. It is tragic in two ways, first and foremost, we have suffered a great loss losing this young man's life.
Secondly, it is tragic because it is the result of years of us Muslim people accepting to take the abuse we suffer everyday in our lives.
The number of crimes against Muslim people was reported to have not risen significantly after 9/11. However, I beg to differ. The number of attacks and abuse has gone up, it is just that we do not report these incidents to the police. We, yes we Muslim's choose to keep quiet and to suffer. Therefore, these attacks, instances of abuse are not recorded and the government and police do not react as the number appears low.

WHAT WE CAN DO. Is to report. Call your police station and report it. You get a crime reference number and also you may get some nutter locked up and away from harming any other people, you may even save a life.

It is disgusting that we do not report our incidents. I do and I am proud that I do. It needs to be documented for statistics, the government gets these stats from the police and then reviews whether action needs to be taken. If you do not report, you allow this to happen. WE could have saved this life. Lets not get short term anger and forget, we need to rally together, no one should suffer a loss like this.

May Allah give his family sabr - our thoughts are with them - no one knows what pains they are going through - to loose a child in the prime of his life. May Allah almighty keep Ahmed's soul in peace and harmony and may Ahmed dwell in the heavens with his ancestors and all others have left this imprisoned life. And as for his attackers - be patient and trust in Allah, for Allah is the best of judges and the best of punishers.

May Allah subhanahu T'ala bless his soul and grant sabar and courage to his parents and relatives.

I agree with all the contributors who have demanded immediate and thorough inquiry and punishment for the murderers.

However, it raises a very important question for all of us who have young children like Hassan as to what advice we should give to them in this climate of crime and violence. Should we ask them to confront these ill bread beasts and face the consequence like Hassan? Or should we ask our children to become cowards stop going out and impose restrictions upon themselves? Should we ask them to carry a knife when they go out so that they can teach lesson to their attackers and if there is a police check find themselves with a criminal record? With teen age children I have this dilemma. I advise them to be vigilant and not to go to places where there could be such a danger but never to show cowardice if they are confronted with such a situation. But then I wonder how on earth can I expect young people to be so sensible and how to decide which place is dangerous. May the Almighty protect everyone from tragedies, any place can become dangerous.
