Talk: Model Mosque Winner Backs MPACUK Campaign! Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 November 2007

570018_mosque.jpgAt the weekend’s Global Peace and Unity Event organised by Islam Channel, Bradford’s Islamic Cultural and Educational Association - Madni Jamia Masjid won the Model Mosque competition. MPACUK would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the their Committee but, actually, this accolade comes as no surprise to us.

As part of the MPACUK North campaign to stop the increase in Pre-Trial Detention to 90-days, we posted out Action Packs to a number of mosques in Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Yorkshire, asking them to collect signatures from their congregations and send a letter to their local MP. And how many mosques responded to this important but rather easy request? Er, just Bradford’s Madni Mosque.

Just one shining beacon amongst a darkness of despair. What we asked for was not difficult to do and nearly all Muslims you speak to agree that the detention period should not be extended. Yet our mosques, the institutions who are ideally placed to empower and mobilise local Muslims either chose to actively ignore our campaign or were oblivious to it (some mosques claimed that they didn’t receive any Action Packs). MPACUK would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Madni Masque who came through for the Muslims.

I suppose not all mosques can be ‘model institutions’ but we are not asking for perfection – just performing the simple, basic tasks that can make a real difference to the everyday lives of ordinary Muslims.

Speaking of making a difference, would you like to be part of this Jihad? If so, you can join the MPACUK Northern Branch at their next meeting on Saturday 1st December between 3.30 and 6:30pm. The venue is:

Community Revival (UK)
456-458 Barlow Moor Road
Chorlton

(entrance Selborne Road)

Please confirm your attendance by emailing info@mpacuk.org. We look forward to seeing you there, insha’Allah.

Dear MPAC,

How do you intend to co-operate/co-ordinate with MINAB?

Muslims should be making their democratic voices heard.

In Saudi Arabia, a rape victim is sentenced to 'x' number of lashes (but not for being raped -- as many automatically assume); in Sudan a teacher is expected to be sentenced to 40 lashes for calling a teddy bear 'Mohammed'; and in UK a man/woman can be jailed for 90 days without having committed ANY crime, not even being charged with ANY crime, and certainly not being found guilty of ANY crime.

Ask the question: which of these is the worst infringement of Human Rights? Why isn't there a huge furore, grass-roots upwards, about it?

Imagine if a (suspected)white drug dealer/paedophile/murderer/rapist was held for 90 days without charge, without ANY evidence: what incredible hllaballoo there would be! (None of these can be held without charge for more than 24 HOURS (yes, hours!) Don't drug dealers have huge complex international networks? Don't internet pedos go to great lengths to encrypt their vile on-line activities (which take police ages to decipher)?

The test has to be: either keep evryone on 24 hours, or change them to 90 days for all serious criminals: only then would the views of the population at large would be properly tested.

Excuse me for smelling a rat, but could it be because terrorists are almost entirely non-white that a lesser standard of justice/Human Rights is being applied?

Full marks to you, MPAC for keeping on about making people more aware of this issue.
