"We will work not to have fixed bases for foreign troops on Iraqi lands," said Ammar Hakim in his Eid-al-Fitr prayer sermon Saturday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. "We are working to enter into a security agreement with the international community to ensure that Iraq retrieves its full sovereignty," he added. Ammar Hakim is the son of the leader of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC), Seyyed Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim. Hakim's comments comes a day after a former chief of US-led forces in Iraq, retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, said the American mission in Iraq was a "nightmare with no end in sight'' because of political and military misjudgments after the 2003 invasion. Sanchez commanded coalition troops for a year beginning June 2003.Speaking Friday in Arlington, Virginia, he criticized current US military Strategies including the deployment of 30,000 additional forces earlier this year - as a "desperate attempt'' to make up for years of misguided policies.
