| Should We Send Our Children To Un-vetted Mosques? |

As the weeks go by it seems more and more disturbing stories are coming
out exposing sickening sexual behaviour against children within the
confines of British Mosques. The subject shouldn't be new to us as this was exposed back in 2000 when a documentary highlighted an Imam sexually abusing a little girl which was then covered up by the Masjid committee members. They went as far as making bribing to ensure silence with the donations from the local community - talk about our Masjids being open and transparent. Even though the institutional reform message has reached organisations such as the British Muslim Forum and the Muslim Council of Britain, who incidently have launched their initiative to "Transform British Mosques" which in my honest opinion lacks strategic vision for the Muslim Community. How are Muslim women going to play an active role in our institutions? How can young British Muslims join in to help the Masjid? It would appear that this "transformation" process of the Masjids will be used against those who wish to see open and accountable Muslim leadership and Institutions, where Muslim & non-Muslim alike can use the resources of the Mosques. By contrast, all that my local Masjid, which is affiliated to the British Muslim Forum, provide for the community is a load of traffic problem, nothing more and nothing less, and also the yearly Eid-Milad-Un-Nabi event. MPACUK believes that the Muslim Community deserves Islamic organisations which can plan their vision for the Muslim Community with the Muslim Community itself and not behind closed doors. This vision should be clearly set out for the average Muslim & non-Muslim and not just the "Elites" of the Institutions. It's up to the leading Institutions of the British Muslim Forum & the Muslim Council of Britain who just last year launched the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Body (MINAB) project which unfortunately has so far produced absolutely nothing for the Muslim Community. It would be a good start for them to at least develop a nation-wide vetting programme on all Imams & Committee Members. Readers have left 2 comments.

Why doesn't MPACUK bother to ask MCB or BMF on what they are doing to protect our children. It's good for you to highlight it but come on give us the accountability of the Muslim Orgs.

I must have missed this story in the news or perhaps it did not make it to the national news. Consider had this alleged incident involved the Catholic Church it would have been headline news and the scandal would have echoed for weeks. It does suggest that the Islamophobia which is often claimed does not extend much beyond issues regarding terrorism.
