"Not in this month?!" What the ...?! Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 September 2007

welcome_ramadhan_170.jpgWalking around university today, I was really shocked by the responses of my fellow Muslim students in this blessed month.

I was handing out leaflets which explained why Muslims shouldn't buy Israeli dates, because we shouldn't support an apartheid state that systematically kills Palestinians. Surprisingly, some Muslims were shocked that I was handing out leaflets "in this month". A sister then went ahead and explained that Muslims shouldn't get involved in politics or campaigns "in this month".

What the hell does that even mean? (Yes, I said 'hell' "in this month").

What kind of faith do we claim to follow if we become more passive during Ramadhan? This is a month where the doors of Allah's Mercy are open and Allah is basically looking for excuses to reward us, yet we seem adamant in stopping Him.

This is a month where Shaytaan is locked up and we are stronger in fighting our desires, so if anything we should be at the forefront of tackling oppression, taking on Zionists and standing for justice in this month.

Our hearts should already be bleeding from the fact that so many injustices are happening around us, but no, in "this month" standing up for the truth isn't what makes you a good Muslim - but starving yourself for a few hours for 29 or 30 days in a mindless ritual, in which you don't actually think about the greatness and significance of Ramadhan, is exactly what the sheikh ordered.

If you don't have the guts or the common sense to tackle oppression in a month where you are closest to Allah, then you won't have the guts or common sense to do it in any other month or in any other part of your lifetime at all.

Don't give me rubbish about "this month" not being a time for action. Don't use this beautiful faith to cover up your feeble excuses for not taking action. We need to use the spiritual strength that we nuture and develop in "this month" to act as a springboard to propel the righteous, practical deeds which help to make a real difference to Muslims around the world.

I'm sorry if I've held you accountable for your laziness in "this month".

Ramadhan Mubarak.

well said.. Those fellow Muslim brothers and sisters should realise that the Greatest Battle in Islam "BADR" took place in this blessed month.. what more example can we have to struggle harder in this month against all oppressive forces in all forms which also includes spreading leaflets like the ones mentioned above to inform the community about which they know not....

If the "Great Battle" of BADR was noteable to Mulsims then why was it said that the Pope caused offence by quoting from an old book that described Mohammed as a Warrior.

Surely there were many battles in the history of Islam.

What a disgrace - these Muslims deny the very word of Allah in the month of Ramadhan, they truly are cursed.

Well done MPAC - you are true to the word of God and He knows what you do - so do not lose heart.

Trials are coming and these Muslims who abandon the Ummah will soon be abandoned themselves.

Another fantastic article. I really have noticed over the past few years about the laziness, apathy, disunity and the mistrust in the British Muslim community. I truly believe that there are lots of British Muslims out there who always take the back seat and don't have the will to more than just pray. We Muslims need to belt up and pull our socks up.
