Imam: Abdulfatah Said Mohamed, Director of the Masjid Topic: WHERE IS THE MUSLIM CONTRIBUTION TO THE G8? Alhamdullillah, the brother addressed the very important question of why, when non-Muslims are clearly tackling issues of concern to our community, Muslims do not appear to be active in the cause or defense of these principales, so essential to our belief system. ZAKAT is a pillar of Islam he explained, yet when one billion people live in 50p a day, we the confortable Muslims of the West appear to spend such a sum with no care in the world but hesitate when it comes to donations or active contributions, such as fundraising, or lobbying. Non-Muslims are uniting to attempt to find solutions to the problems of world poverty, yet where is the Muslim contribution..? Why are we not coming forward with our own alternatives, our own missions and measures? Alhmadullillah, there are some organisations on the front line such as Islamic Relief and Muslim Aid, yet one asks, where are the average Muslims off the streets, the regular guys and girls who go about their lives oblivious to the tragedies stricking at the heart of our Ummah. Get active, show the non-Muslims that we also know solutions to these problems as Allah (SWT) has given us the means to look out for one another and to alleviate suffering, not simply as a recommendation, but as duty - it seems we often fear the authorities more than we fear Allah when it comes to getting involved with Islamic relief, however on Judgement Day, such an excuse will seem very flimsy indeed - So what are you doing for the Ummah today? Keep up the good work A.S Mohamed and Muntada al Islami! Ever hear a really inspirational khutbah and want to show your support for a particular Imams' effort to activate the community and address important social issues? Nominate a khutbah of the week, brothers/sisters. Insha'allah every week, we will select the 'best' khutbah we have heard about. We will be selecting these on the basis of their ability to activate the community, to focus on issues of real and current concern and in English, as well as another language if required, and the research and clear investment of the Imam into the khutbah. Please email us at info@mpacuk.org and we could be publishing your piece next!
