Dear Muslim Doctors and Dentists Association (MDDA),
Assalam-alaikum,
Your recent press releases regarding the condemnation of the recent terror attacks was much appreciated, and in view of the fact that two doctors were involved, made it all the more essential.
I fully understand the need to give every assistance we can to the authorities, and also consider it the duty of every member to co-operate or report to the Police if they should gain knowledge or suspicions which might help suppress such terrorist attacks.
However I feel that as an association made to voice the needs of muslim doctors, although you have done well in fulfilling your responsibility in condemning the acts, you have not come out in defense of innocent doctors trapped by political moves - as is the case of Dr. Haneef, who was working in this country for more than 2 years.
Also, I know of doctors working at Warrington hospital, who have been taken from their work places to be questioned by the police. This is unacceptable behaviour and a ploy to ruin the reputations of good, law-abiding muslim doctors, merely because they were work colleagues and
friends. If the police need to do their questioning, surely they could have waited for the doctors to reach home, rather than build suspicion amongst other work colleagues.
Your last statement was on the 4th of July. Dr.Haneef has been used as a political scapegoat which is quite evident to the world. It would be appreciated if MDDA could release statements in protection of innocent people being politically terrorised in the name of "War against terrorism".
Jazak-Allah Khair
Dr. Ayesha Razvi
