All
mosques should have a relationship with politics and should actively aim in
developing a knowledge and understanding of government and society. The
interaction of people, ideas and institutions provides the focus for
understanding how values are allocated and resources distributed. And therefore
an analyses of who gets what, when, how, why and where are central, as are
concepts of power, justice, order, conflict, legitimacy, accountability,
obligation, sovereignty and decision-making. A mosque should directly be
involved in the politics that concern them in the country they reside in as
this is a good way for mosques to be involved in life. Simple ways of doing
this is by a weekly Current Events Bulletin. This would aim to inform the
Mosque congregation is Layman's terms about the technical details of local and
national current affairs and how it affects them on a regular basis, for
example making a simple announcement on a Friday, before Jummah about current
affairs that affect Muslims around the world and in the UK.
Every
Mosque should have a ‘politically savvy’ team of individuals that will educate
all levels of the congregation about the political landscape and moreover raise
awareness of the fact that the need to participate in the political process
affects Muslims. This inadvertently will help Muslims vote their elected
representative that they feel represent their political orientation best.
A
human rights programme should include providing support for individuals
in the congregation who have been deprived of basic human rights. Men, women
and children should all feel they are able to approach appointed person/persons
in the mosque whom they can approach and will receive help and support with
confidentiality.
