welfare_dept1_butn.jpgContinuing with the MPACUK's Institutional Reform project this article will insh'Allah give a few idea's on what the Welfare Department of the Mosque should do. Again, please provide your feedback by submitting a comment. Please keep the comments on the topic on hand and please no secterian attacks, you can join the many discussion boards out there for that.

  • Child support:

Implementation of a Parents Support group and other child related amenities such as child play groups etc.

  • Advice and Counselling:

Advice and counselling for individuals on social issues including but not limited to drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, forced marriages, bullying.

  • Healthcare Advice & NHS Liaison:

A liaison with local hospitals that will provide the hospital management with advice on how to deal with issues pertaining to Muslims. The mosques assisting the NHS in developing community care where treatment and consultations can take place away from the NHS and in a culturally sensitive environment. Also the liaison officer should assist Muslims in making health related decisions in the light of Islamic doctrine.

  • Marriage Advice & Bureau:

A service that facilitates the introduction of Muslim men and women with the intention of marriage in an islamically agreeable way and to help Muslim & None Muslims families when they have marriage problems.

  • Funeral Facilities:

Links to local Muslim Undertakers or a formal arrangement with other Mosques which have such facilities. Building strong links with the local hospitals to bring greater understanding to how the Muslim dead are to be treated.

  • Prison Mentor:

A liaison officer that visits the Muslim community in local prisons with the objective of counselling and educating Muslim convicts and informing non-Muslim convicts about Islam.
