Dismay As Muslim MPs Fail To Stand For Justice Print E-mail
Saturday, 26 May 2007

3mps.jpgPalestinian supporters were dismayed at the lack of action taken by Muslim MP's who have not had the moral and ethical decency to sign the early day motion, in which a cross party of 77 British MP's from all religious backgrounds have signed the Early Day Motion condemning the racist state of Israel. So far Muhammed Sarwar MP (Glasgow Central) has had the ethics to stand up for what is right and to become a Member of Parliament who can be relied upon to take action to help those who are facing the threat of extinction by an occupying military power.

Israel has time and time again been proved to have committed unlawful killings and probed by Amnesty International for human right abuses which are counter to the principles of a democratic state. Israel would no doubt be shunned and have had United Nation sanctions slapped onto it if it weren't for the Pro-Israeli Lobbies (Labour Friends of Israel, Conservative Friends of Israel and Lid Dem Friends of Israel, AIPAC) in the capitals of America and Britain.

The British Muslim Members of Parliament who have not signed the Early Day Motion to hold the racist state of Israel to account are: Shahid Malik, Khalid Mahmood and Sadiq Khan.

A constituent of Shahid Malik, MP for Dewsbury who helped Shahid win at the General Election was asked what he thought of his name being absent from the Early Day Motion, to which he replied "It is really sad to see Shahid Malik an MP who I helped to win the election betray the Palestinian people, if he wants to win the next election, let him know that I am more than willing to switch to the Conservative Party as I am getting really sick of the Labour Party in Dewsbury".

Another Constituent member of Khalid Mahmood MP stated said "At the General Election Khalid was playing the Muslim card to the Muslim community and expressing that he is there for the Muslims, but cannot manage to sign an EDM that favours the oppressed people of Palestine. This isn't about a Muslim MP fighting for Muslim rights but standing up for universal human rights."

The Muslim Public Affairs Committee, which is Britain's leading Muslim Civil Liberties group ask people of conscience to write into the three remaining Members of Parliament to sign the Early Day Motion.

Helping the less fortunate has been enshrined within the Muslim way of life, which is instilled at a very young age to prepare them for their roles within society which protects the oppressed and poor but it is a real shame the three British Muslim MP's have forgotten their responsibility towards their fellow human beings.

Please contact them and demand they sign it and hold them to account for this delay that shouldn't have occurred in the first place. Please be courteous and polite but firm.

They've disgraced the Ummah. I'm particularly surprised about Sadiq Khan M.P I was hoping he would sign. We need to find out why he didn't bother. Any Muslims from Tooting out there?

I am deeply disappointed to see the Mr Malik failed to sign the motion. I have written to him on a number of occasions in the past regarding the issue of Palestine and during the Lebanon war. He responded on all occasions, outlining what he had done leaving me content that he was as concerned as I, and willing to raise the issue when and where appropriate.

This said it’s still very sad and disappointing to notice that he did not sign the EDM in this instance.

Before I write to him, expressing my concern as a constituent, can anybody outline a possible excuse he may use for his inaction on this subject?

Many thanks

To be honest, I wouldn't have thought Khalid Mahmood would have done the right thing. I can remember even when 7/7 happened, the BBC News had one group of young muslims who were rightly saying to please investigate this properly, and Mr Mahmood was really shouting down to them, not really supporting them. I have lost respect for him, To what i have read and seen on him at the past, he has never helped the muslims in UK

They might make up lame excuses such as my dog died, or my wife was having a baby, or they were ill. These excuses are rubbish they have had plenty of time to sign these EDM's.

They might also claim they were out protesting, or that they have not heard of the EM before.

But the excuse that comes up most of often is that they are part of some select commitee so they cannot sign certain EDM's which is complete and utter garbage because my MP said they all have a right to sign an EDM whether they are part of a commite or not. Your best option is to vote him out at the next election. Operation Muslim Vote Part 2!!

Muslim or otherwise, an MP will look out for his own interest. When are we going to learn that voting for these guys or for anyone else will never solve our problems. They ask for our votes, then betray us in our hour of need. We should forget about the village politics and instead concentrate on our own families and trying to bring them up in best way we can, inshallah.

Khalid Mahmood couldn't even muster up enough courage to show his disgust to the onslaught on Afghan civilians in "operation enduring freedom" instead in recited tattle that upon reflection can only be seen to support it. What makes you think this spineless, greasy-palmed individual is going to display any sort of emotion for the suffering of the Palestinians, the Iraqi's, the Chechens, the kashmiri's? How many times has he and other muslim MP's conveniently 'abstained' from voting on conflicts in muslim lands? Take a look.

You guys are kidding yourselves if you think these guys give a diddly-squat about muslims in foreign lands. They'll continue to be voted in by slack-jawed cousins that do the majority of their election campaigning and canvassing. In the meanwhile, they continue to have a house in london, mortgage fully paid by the Tax payers (me and you) under "MP Expenses", until they leave politics with that house in their name, as well a large sum pension package.
