Why The Anti-War Movement Must Tackle the Pro-War Israeli Lobby to Succeed Print E-mail
Sunday, 22 April 2007

apartheid_flag.jpgBeing involved in the anti-war movement throughout the years you would know that the Iraq war was pushed by the Pro-Israel Lobby here in London as well as in Washington.

If we are to stop the upcoming war with Iran we must first expose the Israel lobby here within Britain. This process has already begun in America. Recently, a documentary was aired called "The Israel lobby - The influence of AIPAC on US Foreign Policy ”. It was produced by Tegenlicht, by the Dutch public broadcast organization VPRO.

For us, the question which needs to be answered is: why has the British media never questioned the power of the Israel lobby on our domestic and foreign policy issues?

The Israel's Lobby Pressure on British Domestic & Foreign Policy

On our domestic issues: Why is it that no one can question or choose to openly boycott the racist state of Israel without being pounded by members of the pro-Israel lobby. An example of the lobby in action:

Kim Howells is a member of the Labour Friends of Israel which is a secretive pro-Israel lobby within the Labour Party who wrote on the democratic vote on the boycott call for Israeli goods

“I was disappointed to hear that the NUJ voted to boycott goods from Israel."

As citizens of a democratic country we have every right to choose to boycott countries whose track record on human rights, women’s rights, children's rights and the right to health care is being denied on a daily basis.

10230_protest.jpg We had every right to boycott South African apartheid and now the heroes of the anti-apartheid movement have every right to boycott the last remaining apartheid. If Dr. Kim Howells believes that the ethical and moral boycott of Israel is a disappointment then we can ask him to look at how peace and prosperity was brought back to South Africa.

On our Foreign Policy: while the British public were calling for a ceasefire during Israel’s pre-planned attack on Lebanon’s civilians, why was it that our foreign policy endorsed the massacre of innocent people? Throughout the years, our foreign policy used to be about stopping the mass killing and to find solutions to problem through diplomacy, prime example being Northern Ireland, Bosnia as well as many others.

But why was it when it comes to Israel is our foreign policy based on killing rather than talking? Is it because Lord Levy was the chief fund raiser of the Labour Party? Is it because there is an overbearing Israeli lobby calling themselves "Labour Friends of Israel", or the "Conservative Friends of Israel", or the "Lid Dem Friends of Israel" or “BICOM? One has to ask: Why do they exist?

Blocking the Pro-War Israel Lobby

The drums of more wars are beating. You simply have to watch the news to realise that Iran is next on the lobby’s hit-list. If we are to stop the up coming wars, we have to expose the individuals and organisations that are not speaking on behalf of British interests but in the interests of Israel. This Pro-War Israeli Lobby must be exposed, so that our foreign policy is based upon peace and prosperity in the world and which can free the people from poverty, which promotes in fair trade and justice. This change would make Britain a leading light in world diplomacy which it should rightfully be.

Revd Tony Graham: Quote

I sent my MP a note received from ICAHD (the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions) about house demolitions in Israel and the West Bank, and we're waiting for a comment from the said Kim Howells who is, I gather, "minister responsible for the region"... The Church of England has a small but effective group called 'Anglicans for Israel' which leaped into action when we voted to take church money out of Caterpillar bulldozers, that do the house demolitions. So good luck with exposing the Israel lobby. My Jewish friends will approve, I'm sure - this is one case where faiths can work together and build up mutual respect.
