It also accused the government of playing to a "tabloid agenda," saying that its "anti-terrorism campaign was often driven by party political and electoral motives that are `submerging' its own `sensible' counter-terrorism strategy."
Sensible plans to combat terror are now being "submerged by the government's `electoral motives,'" the charity said in a new report that accused ministers of "exploiting the politics of fear." "The actions of ministers, particularly Home Secretary John Reid, could have a `boomerang effect' by alienating the Muslim communities whose trust and cooperation are vital," it warned.
British Muslims have criticized a series of recent comments made by ministers for provoking new waves of Islamophobic attacks in the UK.
These have included calls by Reid for Muslim parents to spy on their children as potential terrorist suspects and House of Commons leader Jack Straw saying that Muslim women should remove any face veils they wear.
The study also strongly urged the government to abandon talk of a `war on terror,' saying that such terminology is "misleading and disproportionate."
"It allows terrorists to assume the dignity of being `soldiers' or `combatants' instead of the mere criminals that they are," it said.
The Trust also called on the government to meet its pledge to consolidate all of Britain's anti-terror laws in a single terrorism bill when it sets out its legislative program at the opening of the new parliamentary year on Wednesday.

Well isnt it to be expected?, On a whole if you listen to what Asghar Bukhari say when he was interview up against the vile Sajjan. The point made is that muslims in this country do not understand the power of democracy and how to channel aggression into prodcutivity. While we have uneducated muslims taking to the streets shouting and insulting this great nation expect the host society to attempt to protect itself, We as muslims need to re educate, assimalate and understand our position in the UK and then we can move forward untill then expect more laws like this.
Kathy:
John Reid announced a few days back that there is likely to be a terrorist attack over the Christmas period. He comes out with such statements so frequently these days that I think only he actually believes it. I remember the 70's when the IRA were at their height and I actually lived in London when they were planting bombs and in some cases not giving warnings. All of our Christmas and any other holiday periods were threatened, not by the IRA but by the government of the time assuming things.
Reid just likes to hear his own voice and see his smirking face on TV. It is time he got down to the real criminals in this country instead of fear mongering. Remember the story of the boy who cried wolf once too often Mr Reid. Take care as one day that could be what will happen and you will be the one to blame.
Sceptic:
Masud Most people in this country muslims & non-muslims understand the power of democracy. 100's of thousands killed in Iraq and Afghanistan at the behest of a few neo-con criminals, whilst the majority of the British public said "not in our name". Complicity in the Zionist Gangster states war crimes. A short reading of History will also provide you with a further understanding of the power of British democracy; e.g massacres in Malaya, Yemen, the Suez conspiracy with France and Israel, Kenya, the deliberately created famines in India that killed millions. You can compare that with the great "uncivilised and undemocratic" muslim countries, whose killing rate lags far far behind. I can assure you that a little reading will weaken your faith in the power of British democracy
Guard the Guards:
Brittania rules the waves, or so the saying went.
Britain has been at war with nearly every nation on earth, namely;
The Viking nations, The French, The Germans, two world wars, The Scottish, The Irish, The Russians, India, Afghanistan, Malaya, Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Kenya, South Africa (Boer, Zulu wars), Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe (Northern Rodeshia), Argentina, Belize, Guyana, Egypt, Syria, Japan, Spain, etc.
surely there are a lot on countries left out of the above, Brits are a warring tribe, they look for trouble.
