International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) - Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR)has failed to protect civilians in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan and other conflict areas of the world.

They have failed to enforce the 3rd and 4th Conventions as set-out in 1949, in addition, they have failed to enforce the 1977 additional 1st and 2nd Protocols in their entirety.

It is time for us to rethink the role of the ICRC as the sponsors and guardians of the Geneva Conventions and seek an alternative body to enforce the Conventions and additional Protocols.

Let's be honest about this. Photos often lie, as numerous examples during this conflict have shown like the the 'Lebanese war smoke doctor. Perspective is important.

It is not altogether clear what this photo shows or does not. You could say it shows a human shield, but maybe it is someone who has been detained for abusing some border guards, or he may not even be a shield of any kind, as we cannot see the aggressor. He may just be hanging out!

I'm not saying I know this, but what I'm saying is, don't jump to a conclusion without some extra-photographic substantiation, preferably from an (relatively) unbiased news source.

Second, I do not quite understand why people who have often supported the Palestinian, Lebanese and Iraqi terrorists, who have used human shields, are now criticizing Israel for apparently doing so!

If this never diminished your support for one of those causes, it should have no bearing on your opinion of Israel. If you are now incensed by Israel's 'foul play' here, surely you should now go back and be furious with those earlier groups who have taught Israel the grim science.

However, this would demand some degree, however limited, of objectivity, which very few supporters of either side in this conflict seem able to demonstrate.

Perhaps you should get some glasses? I suspect you suffer from Zionism of the retina. Usual symptoms are failure to see any criticism of Israel and it's policies. I believe it's the only eye disorder which encompasses pictures as well as written criticism. Often Zionism of the eye is accompanied by a turrets like syndrome. Were the suffer shouts out "Antisemitism" at the drop of a hat.

The role of the ICRC is not to enforce any convention but to alert nations about abuses and to facilitate routes to the prevention and elimination of abuse. The ICRC has no taskforce or police force capable of any enforcement.
There are long debates elsewhere on the internet about whether various coventions actually apply ... both sides make many claims but few if any are substantiated via the international courts.
