Palestinians are facing a humanitarian catastrophe following the blockade imposed by the EU, US and Israel, suffering what the World Bank describes as an 'unprecedented economic depression'. Access to food, water and electricity is severely restricted in the Gaza Strip. Israel is assaulting basic democratic rights by imprisoning elected representatives of the Palestinian people, launching military assaults on the West Bank and Gaza which have killed over 260 Palestinians since June, and continuing to build the Apartheid Wall and settlements. The lobby of Parliament is taking place on the UN's international day for Palestine . We are calling urgently for everyone to contact their MP to tell the British government to work to end the blockade on the Palestinian people, act on the decision of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to release the Palestinian parliamentarians held by Israel , and to end its arms trade with Israel . The purpose of the lobby is to meet your MP and explain to them why you feel that these issues must be addressed immediately, calling on them to take action. Please come along, whether you have spoken to your MP before, or have never contacted them before. Showing there is strong support for Palestinian human rights makes a difference! To lobby your MP: Firstly, contact your MP as soon as possible and arrange a meeting with them on Wednesday 29 November. The above motion is all well and good, and noble. But it is too reminiscent of the 70 - 73 Arms Embargo which created the circumstances for the Yom Kippur War.
What is really needed is a cessation of supplies of all weapons into the area, that includes the millions of dollars worth of weapons that the Palestinian forces have been bringing in. A cessation of violence by both sides and NO pathetic excuses that Palestinian attacks on Israelis are part of justified resistance. Demonstrable evidence by the PNA that it is an effective government and in control of Gaza and the West Bank. Including evidence that tax payment transfers from Israel to PNA are not being used to finance violence or promote sectarian hatred. Demonstrable evidence by the Israelis that they are in control of the IDF. Modifications to "Wall / Fence" to reposition it along 1949 Green Line. The commencement of discussions to facilitate 1. movement of aid into Gaza and West Bank, 2. the opening of borders to allow Palestinian businesses to export goods, 3. access to Israeli health care system by Palestinians, 4. access to universities by Palestinian students. A clear statement by the PNA that it is accepts UN resolution 242.
