MPAC is at the forefront of defending the Muslims in these darkest of times. Despite Muslims joining MPAC at an amazing rate and thus enabling us to create localised teams around the country, we are still understaffed and grossly under funded. Readers have left 17 comments.

I agree that we can do better. Asghar has done a great job in setting up MPAC, however he must let the new people handle the media. Otherwise he is guilty of the very obstruction that he is eluding to. Also, if you want to be taken seriously, you must drop the "mr angry" act and focus on the job at hand.

Wow, frank and honest article from mpac.
Personally i think you did a good jon though, not sure where all the other muslim organisations went? I saw ihrc on some channel but their contribution was blow par, the ihrc rep didnt even smile!! unfortunatly ISB, YM etc were nowhere to be seen (to my knowledge - and i am a news junkie) so yeah, you may have said some incorrect things, but you guys are still miles ahead of the rest of the muslim pack.

Its a shame that we have to ask a volunteer organisation to defend muslims. i wonder why muslims would rather give money to building mosques and chandaliers then improve the services offered out of them. MPAC i will donate some of my Zakat to you guys.
well done and keep it up. salam Z

good article, I don't know what other people are saying about the MPAC but i'm really proud of the contribution they make, its refreshing to hear a side of the debate which I can relate to a lot more than the bland PC brigade or the right wing neo-cons. Asghar does a great job, and thank-you to all the MPAC

Jazzaak Allah Khair.
You made valid, self-evident points. Also, akhi, it would have been good to have answered Karmi's ridiculous assertion that the niqab is un-Islamic, albeit to dismiss it out of hand. It is known among scholars that Niqab was initially a matter of consensus, with the first-generations of Muslims - our example - later scholars held it to be sunnah-muakkadah (highly recommended)- now fools masquerading as scholars want to say it's haraam!. So a little more research will always prove to be a winning tactic, bi iznillah. Keep up the defence of the realm!! It is very humble of you to put up an apology but not necessary as perfection is for Allah alone.

BIGOTRY UNVEILED
Blair, Straw and the Priest: ‘Remove that veil, Muslim’ The rate of rabid anti-Islamic sentiment gushing from elements of the Crusader Cartel has risen significantly in past weeks, as several public figures, from Bush to the Pope to the slippery Straw vie with each other in assaulting Muslim sensibilities, timidly hiding behind slimy fig-leafs: An obscure quotation here, an insincere appeal to community relations there, or citing the interest of ‘open’ debate. Strange, then, that ‘open debate’ was the last thing either Blair or Straw were interested in when hundreds of thousands of his fellow countrymen and women took to the streets in protest to the wanton murder of innocent and oppressed people in the name of oil supplies (sorry… was it WMDs or ‘Freedom’?). Farce of Democracy Stranger still that Blair, ever the democrat, did his best to avoid debate in the House of Commons and took a unilateral decision (dictate) that WE should go to war against a nation and its children, based upon the anarchism of ‘Royal Prerogative’. Once he had announced the decision to go to war, he ventured to debate! Ahmed Versi, the editor of Muslim News, observed: “Straw’s action will send signals to Muslim women to keep away from his surgery, leading to refusal to participate in the democratic process.” But who said Straw et al want to help them participate at all? In 2003 France introduced legislation banning the niqab (a style of Islamic face-veil), soon Germany, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands had jumped on the bandwagon. The European Court of Justice, the most powerful court in Europe, upheld the ban. Now Straw, with Blair fast behind him, is rushing to plunge us all into the fetid waters of Fascism. Get ready to hold your nose. Cabal of hate Rather than redress its desperate failings both at home and abroad, Labour’s embarrassing double whammy of war and immigration has been used to portray Britain’s diverse Muslim community in the mould of these prejudices. Worse, the resultant marginalisation is portrayed as self-inflicted, as we see in Labour’s designs on turning ordinary citizens against Muslims through a gradual process of alienation – as in singling out Muslim women’s religious garb for scrutiny – while claiming that it is Muslims who do no want to integrate. Fear generated by media scares (how many terror plots and suspects do we hear of in the media? Why is the same media so quiet when the majority are routinely released?), has sparked an arc of extremist hate, anxiety and distrust that stretches wide. The BNP mentality is fast being hotwired into mainstream thought. On principle, it is the erosion of civil liberties, and not the religious symbol of niqab, that needs to be urgently debated in order to save society from implosion. We need to ask ourselves; is it proper to submit to the short-sighted hate-inspired dictates of blairites – the true harbingers of death and civil strife en masse - when these very same people are proven liars? Was this not the same Jack Straw who as Foreign Secretary, denied to the House of Commons any knowledge of torture-rendition flights, only to be forced to admit his knowledge of the same when confronted by evidence two weeks later? Isn’t it ironic that he is now in a position of trust over the House that he lied to!?! Were Blair and Straw not willing cronies of Islam Karimov, the butcher of Uzbekistan (that beacon of democracy and Human Rights)? Perhaps it didn’t occur to Straw, then Foreign Minister, that this government’s complicity in systematic torture, including boiling people alive, might be an urgent priority for national debate, but no, that privilege should be reserved for the archaic niqab. The last straw for enduring Imperialists Already a middle-aged lady has been assaulted in Liverpool, her hijab (she wasn’t wearing a niqab) wrenched from her in broad daylight. Her attacker: a man in his 60’s is hardly your stereotypical lout. Words of hate beget actions of hate. Is this the kind of reaction Straw was hoping to provoke on a national scale? As this controversy rages, a Muslim family in Windsor suffer three nights of racist and Islamophobic attack and neither Straw nor Blair bat an eyelid. Obviously, no community concerns over there then! Blair and Straw, notwithstanding their polished exteriors, conceal a profound disregard for their own constituents, let alone anyone else who gets in the way of their slimy scheming. Respect MP George Galloway remarked: "Straw should be forced to resign now. He has rested on the support of Muslim and other traditional Labour voters in Blackburn for far too long. They, and every right thinking person in the constituency, should together take a big step towards uniting the community through breaking with Straw and electing someone who will truly represent them." John Rees, Respect National Secretary further observed: "This government has been fuelling Islamophobia with its wars on Afghanistan and Iraq and its so-called 'war on terror'. Now Straw, who was foreign secretary when we went into Iraq based on Blair's big lie, has made the situation even worse. “He must resign now and let the people of his constituency choose someone who will stand up for them rather than attack them." The distorted face of Imperialism has defined the Blairite government’s final term, like a morbid spectre rising from the graveyard of history; it will be the final legacy of an increasingly totalitarian administration. I hope British Muslims realise that the 'Crusader Cartel' and their illegal war in Iraq do not have the support of the majority of the British public. I am white British and I hate Blair and everything he stands for. He does not speak for me, nor for most of the people I know. The only way to defeat him is through the ballot box. We need to biuld a better Britain for all citizens. We are all victims of Blair's tyranny.
