The Prime Minister responded to the resignation by describing Mr Watson and his merry men as "disloyal, discourteous and wrong". Muslims could have told you a long time ago that Khalid Mahmood was “disloyal and wrong”.
Khalid Mahmood’s opportunism is beyond belief. When he was supposed to make a stance on Iraq or Lebanon he refused to remove himself from the hareem of 10 Downing Street. Robin Cook MP resigned from his post out of disillusionment for the Government's stance on Iraq war but Khalid Mahmood refused to condemn the occupation. He also refuses to acknowledge that the fire of extremism and radicalisation is being caused by oppressive and discriminatory foreign policies.
Khalid Mahmood is playing this game of treachery at this time as he wants to closely align himself to the new Prime Minster in waiting, Gordon Brown. The constituents of Birmingham are frustrated with Khalid Mahmood as it becomes increasingly evident that he can switch from being lap-dog of the Blair regime to being the poodle of the upcoming Gordon Brown era. A recent open letter sent to the Prime Minister signed by three other Muslim MP's, 2 Muslim Lords and 30 leading Muslim organisations slammed the debacle of Iraq and how the failure to secure an immediate end to attacks on civilians in the Middle East not only increased the risk to ordinary people in that region but it has also provided ammunition to extremists who threaten us all. The only Muslim MP who did not sign this letter was Khalid Mahmood, so how can such a man claim to represent the Muslims?
This unfortunate specimen is the same MP who supported the 'shoot to kill policy' which led to the death of Jean Charles de Menezes. Other MP's have voiced their concerns over these types of policing methods, particularly of the legal ramifications of such a policy, but it seems that Khalid Mahmood not only doesn’t speak for Muslims but he also supports the state 'executions' of 'dodgy' looking citizens.
This high risk strategy may be Khalid Mahmood’s last throw of the dice as this blatant career move may backfire with calls of disloyalty from senior ministers, Inshallah. Readers have left 6 comments.
