Sunday 6th August/Day 26

Israel took its greatest number of casualties since the beginning of its war against the Lebanon today as 13 soldiers died in a single attack by Hizbullah rockets.  The attacks occurred in the village of Kfar Giladi close to the Lebanese border. There were further attacks in Haifa causing three deaths.

The military campaign against Hizbullah is clearly not working despite boasting by the Israeli chief of staff, as reported in the Observer, that he could “wipe out Hizbullah's missile threat within 10 days. These claims are now being mocked as rockets rain down on Israel's north with ever greater intensity, despite an intense and highly destructive air bombardment.”

While the Israeli army seem to suffer ever greater losses, the people of Lebanon continue to die. The number of civilian casualties today amounted to fourteen. Five civilians were killed in southern Lebanon when an Israeli war plane bombed a house in the village of Ansar. Another three were killed in Naqoura, a town close to the Israeli border.

…as do the Palestinians. Fresh reports today spoke of the death of four people in Gaza including a fifteen year old boy and sixteen year old girl when Israel bombed a house in Rafah.

In other news, the speaker of the Palestinian parliament was today imprisoned. It appears that it was justification enough that he was a member of the Hamas Government. He is however not the only case of Government officials being unlawfully detained. Eight ministers and twenty-six other politicians were also detained on 29 June in response to the capture of an Israeli soldier. One can only imagine the uproar should an Israeli member of Parliament have been seized and yet Israel have hijacked nearly the whole Palestinian cabinet and the world remains silent!

UN resolution

The UN resolution was predictably rejected by Lebanon today because of its failure to incorporate Lebanese demands due to its flagrant Israeli bias. Condoleeza Rice unashamedly spoke of the fact the resolution will fail to quell the violence saying ”these things take a while to wind down." In comparison to the White House’s threatening and outspoken attitude concerning Iran and other states in the “axis of evil”, these comments showed at best Americas double standards concerning the Middle East and more specifically her ability to consent to the continuation of acts of terror on civilian populations as long as it served the interests of her allies.

The Lebanese representative at the UN, Nouhad Mahmoud, today submitted an official amendment to the resolution. This called for Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory as part of the agreement. A vote on the resolution is expected within the next few days.

Can Israel really win the war?

Perhaps? A Guardian reporter may take a different view painting an impressive picture of a different type of resistance movement. Not of “terrorists” but of ordinary Lebanese people fighting to protect their land and families from Israeli aggression:

“Israeli jets drop their expensive US bombs, usually far from where Hizbollah has been firing. Tanks pound the limestone ridges and envelop them in smoke ('Shooting at ghosts and trees,' says Yahia wryly). In retaliation, Hizbollah fires its rockets blindly across the border, while Metula's sirens wail.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army, the world's fourth most powerful, is driven back by the fierce resistance of shepherds, farmers and mechanics - who are not afraid to die, unlike young Israelis - and then retreats, while leaders on both sides threaten worse, while hinting at conditions for peace.”

The massacre in Lebannon of innocent people and the deliberate targetting of infrastructre is not about winning the war but about the US showing muslim countries that it has and is prepared to use WMDs on muslim nations and their people. Israel is just another state which is part of the US and is so reliant on the US that it cannot refuse to do as it is told by Bush and Blair.

Death comes to all, whether it be by disease or natural death, whether it be by accident or by murder. But only Allah wills it and it happens.

What the Hizbollah are doing is showing the Arab world that Israel is not as mighty as it made out to be, regardless of the damage being caused to Lebannon, Israel would have still caused mass damage whether Hizbollah carried out the bombings of Israel or not.

Greater Israel (also Complete Land of Israel): Eretz Yisrael Hashlemah[1][2]) is an international relations term that denotes historical and Biblical boundaries of the Land of Israel .
Though the borders of Greater Israel are not clearly defined, many devout Jews (and Christians alike) draw such definition from Biblical sources, namely the book of Genesis , which describes God's covenant with Abraham
On that day, God made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river the Euphrates. The land of the Kenites, Kenizites, Kadmonites; the Chitties, Perizites, Refaim; the Emorites, Canaanites, Gigashites and Yevusites." - Genesis 15:18-21
In the above context, Greater Israel would comprise, roughly, all of modern-day Israel (including the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Jordan , and Lebanon , much of Syria , Iraq and Kuwait , as well as parts of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey. No wonder BUSH is delivering bombs in a hurry. He actually believes that the Israelis will finally deliver the promised land. I fully understand Blair's complicity in the plot. It appears that he is a good Christian - Hindu [ of course, Blair's Hinduism comes from the time of Moses when he found his impatient followers worshiping a Golden Cow]. I always knew something was wrong with Blair. Now I know he is confused [!] [ too many religions or spinning out of control or maybe both] .
