Lebanon in Crisis - Day 25 - UN resolution is agreed upon, but to what effect? Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 August 2006

Following a march through the streets of London which drew up to 100,000 people, the USA and France have finally agreed on the wording of a draft resolution. It will now have to be discussed with the 15 member states on the Security Council.

Many commentators saw the resolution as a victory for the US and Israel, as it did not call for an “unconditional” end to the fighting, but instead reserves the right for Israel to once again wage war on Lebanon should she come under attack by Hizbullah. The resolution essentially called for “a full cessation of hostilities based upon, in particular, the immediate cessation by Hezbollah of all attacks and the immediate cessation by Israel of all offensive military operations."

However, it completely failed to address the issues of a timetable for Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, Israel’s current blockade of Lebanon and the issue of the Sheba farms being administered under UN control; all of which are key Lebanese demands. It is yet to be seen whether Hizbullah will agree to such a resolution which is so in favour of Israeli interests and somewhat neglectful of Lebanon’s.

Within the Lebanon, chaos returned to Tyre today (Saturday) as Israeli soldiers attacked an apartment block with guns and grenades where Hizbullah fighters were stationed. There is some controversy over casualty figures as Israel claim that several militants were killed however Hizbullah maintain there were no casualties. Furthermore Israel continued it’s nightly offensive, with over 70 air strikes in southern Lebanon. Bombs also went of in the Shiite suburbs of Beirut.

In response to Israel’s attacks on civilians, Hizbullah launched a number of rockets into Israel resulting in three deaths in the village of Arab al Aramshe. Five people were also wounded in Haifa in a separate attack.

The people of Sidon tonight await an attack by Israel following a leaflet drop by the Israeli air force warning civilians to stay away from rocket launching areas. The leaflets they drop will be of little consolation to the mothers who will mourn the deaths of their children in days to come.

Gaza remains as brutal a battlefield as Lebanon as Israel wages war on two fronts. Five people died including three civilians as an Israeli aircraft reportedly shot at a house in Rafah. Children were among the wounded.

Israeli troops have now reoccupied up to 5 sq kilometres of Rafah as they carry out house to house searches for the captured Israeli soldier; undoubtedly terrorising the civilian population living in these areas in the process.

The Israeli army is moving further into Gaza and coming closer to Rafah’s refugee camp. This is despite a Hamas initiative to resolve the conflict as the Israelis refused to trade the captured Israeli soldier for Palestinian prisoners.

Prepare yourself to be able to take up the political jihad and stand firm against Zionist and British American imperial interests by attending one of MPACUK’s Open Days. There are still places available for the next open day in Ilford which will be held tomorrow. Click here for more information. Remember it is never too late to take up the fight for our Ummah.

interesting - this new UN resolution blair has been working on, if you take a look at the not so small print, it provides for the attack syria or iran .. how? it makes it 'illegal' for any arms 'sales' to any one other than the lebanese government. so no sup[port to hezbollah.

seems they really do want to legitimise their iran/syria war and this is what the resolution goes in some way to do .

amazing (not really) no one in the uk news media is picking this up .. or maybe they already have the proposed dates for the bigger war.

Absolutely well said Wendy

This is world war III in the making, typically Once again the Zionist war machine is clicking into mode & the worlds media are quick to hide this... How many more "scars" can the body of the "muslim Ummah" take before it stands up for itself in defiance of the atrocities being commmitted on it?

Subhanallah, the Shia community are showing every muslim how you should retaliate when a terrorist, brutal, trangressive state like Israel tries to step up and use bullying tactics against Arabs - may Allah be with them, strengthen them and InshAllah Grant them victory..

to end, we must not underestimate the power of dua for your fellow muslims brothers in combat today, what else do we have? the United Nations? yes, United in allowing US & its allies to try and crush the Islamic presence in the world today.
