Members of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) have been demonstrating outside an East Anglian Air-force base in opposition to the transport of US weapons to aid the Israeli offensive against Lebanon. CND protesters gathered at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, on 30.07.06 and 31.07.06 to oppose the use of the airbase to transport the US provision of artillery to Israel.

The transport flights were originally destined for Prestwick Airport in Scotland, but were diverted to Mildenhall to avoid protesters. According to the CND, there has been a massive public outcry against the use of British Facilities to aid these murderous transports.  

Peter Lanyon, CND activist from Norwich said:

‘We utterly condemn all weapons transports to the Middle East at this time. They are contributing to the worsening of this tragic humanitarian crisis. There will be even more blood on our hands’.

Many are angered by the hypocrisy with which the Blair Government has acted. On the one hand, Blair is condemning Israeli attacks on Lebanese Civilians but on the other he has allowed the very weapons used in these attacks to pass through British soil. 

Kate Hudson, Chair of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament said:

‘Not only is the Prime Minister going against overwhelming world opinion in refusing to back an immediate ceasefire, but also by allowing these murderous transports to take place through Britain, he is actively contributing to the mounting death toll. Eternal shame on Tony Blair. Not only the peoples of the world, but History, will judge him very harshly for this latest piece of war-mongering.’
