How often do we moan about journalism that just misses the point or fails to address certain facts? Yet how many of us actually take the time to write to the author responsible and remind him or her? Do we all just assume they are evil misleading people who must be pro-Israel and/or anti-Muslim?? Here's an email sent by a Muslim brother to an author at the BBC and the response he received. At the end is the link to the article in question, now edited with a previously missed fact. Dear Paul, I am quite puzzled as to why you have not included the fact that the state of Israel deliberately and unlawfully imprisoned hundreds of civilians during it is illegal invasion of Lebanon in the 1990s. According to Hezbollah' leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah that is THE main reason of kidnapping of the two soldiers. For the sake of stating the full facts for both sides I think this point should be made clear since you did state that: "Hezbollah has argued that its initial raid was to capture the Israeli soldiers to be bargained for... " for whom? Thank you, kind regards, Hassan Medical Student, London Paul Reynolds' response: Hassan Thank you for this. I have now amended the story to include a reference to Israel taking hostages. I meant to keep it strictly on points of law but agree that there is more to it than that. Paul
