Earlier on, President Bush stated that ‘Israel has a right to defend itself’. The Israeli Prime Minister first announced that Israel is at war, heightening the conflict in the Middle East. The surrounding countries are also planning to engage in large scale operations, if provoked. This isn’t a so called ‘war’ to defend Israel, but an opportunity to hit back at Hezbollah. Israel’s strategy is to change the rules and seek military revenge. The objective is beyond defence; it is to ‘win this war’. With Hezbollah’s backing in Iran, Israel’s strategy has broadened and posses a threat to the Muslim world. The question here is will people unity against the Israeli forces? ‘There’s nothing that can justify this’, said Hassan Ramal, a neighbour. ‘Israel is acting the same way in Gaza. Why did they hit a house full of children? Is this how Ehud Olmert takes revenge?’ The Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is being tested for his prospects of peace with Palestinians. Surrounding countries such as Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia have raised their defence. In time of desperation Iran and Syria have put their differences aside and will unite against the Zionist regime if attacked. What could have been understood as a regional conflict has now raised alarm bells in the Middle East. If there isn’t violence there is hatred, if there isn’t hatred there is danger and anxiety. The new generation are taught to hate, and that peace can no longer be the solution. Edward Zorkin, a neighbour of one of the houses hit by the Lebanese forces says that ‘We have to go into Lebanon and hit them very; very hard…we have to kill all of the Arabs there’. How can we look to the future of a place that was once officially recognised as ‘Palestine’ when we are taking little action as Muslims now? You can start by as little as raising awareness on the situation where hundred and thousands need more than our prayers, thoughts and to know that we can no longer bear to hear the death rate escalate or endure their pain. Every one of us has a God-given right to protect ourselves and our brothers and sisters who are suffering to defend their land, their homes and their families. We need an action, where we can divert our anger into something powerful, so powerful that when an Islamophobe thinks to attack Islam and Muslims, he thinks twice about it.
