MPACUK brought you the appalling truth of the Muslim grocery store, Sabar Bros, which not only stocked and promoted Israeli dates, but also refused to listen to sincere advice, naseeha, offered by members of the public, as to why produce from Israel, a murdering apartheid state, should not be bought and sold, by Muslims and non Muslims alike. The brothers at the store humiliated Sister Z and ignored her efforts of peaceful dialogue. Sister Z then wrote in to us at MPACUK and we launched a campaign, to hold the store to account and ensure our views were heard.
The brothers at Sabar Bros were inundated with scores of calls from the public, complaining about their actions and their refusal to back down and stop funding Israel - a state that is murdering Palestinians in mass numbers. One caller wrote in to MPACUK, recounting the abusive and threatening language she received as she attempted to reason with the store.
MPACUK called the store and here is a brief account of the conversation that took place:
We spoke to the elderly brother at the store. His grasp of English was not the best but we managed to get our points across. At first the brother was quite abrupt with us, claiming that we (MPACUK) bought from Marks and Spencer’s (Britain's biggest corporate sponsor of Israel). We had to stop ourselves from laughing as we informed him that in fact we have been involved in weekly pickets against M & S for a number of years. He told us that he really cares about Palestine (hmmm...a slight contradiction to what he said to sister Z but we let that slide) and that he had worked with his local Mosque to raise £15,000 for Palestine. When we asked for his local Mosques details, he got flustered and hung up on us! We rang back again, hoping to resolve the matter quickly and with some mutual respect and understanding. We politely advised the brother that the dates in question were in fact from Israel - an entity that is murdering and displacing our brothers and sisters. Thus by selling the Israeli dates, the store was directly funding Israel. We asked him if he would continue selling the products now that he had received sincere advice as to why he shouldn't. He said that all this was a misunderstanding and that he cares for Palestine and he would no longer be selling the dates.
Alhamdulillah, MPACUK hope that Sabar bros will keep their promise of purging their store of Israeli dates, and uphold the dignity and values expected from Muslims who are ordained by Allah SWT to stand against injustice, and defend those that cannot defend themselves.
This MPACUK SUCCESS could not have been achieved without the efforts of those who took the time out for calling in to the store to advise the brothers; We thank all of you who have contributed to this SUCCESS for the sake of the Ummah.
We await Sister Z's response as to when she will be visiting the store. We hope Sabar Bros have taken on board the naseeha imparted to them, realised the extent of how important it is to boycott Israeli produce and also utilise this opportunity to improve their adaab when dealing with such situations.
We would like to once again show that - thanks to Allah SWT - lobbying is one of the most effective and critical tools one can employ in order to fight for and preserve justice – be it against our very own Muslim community or not!

Success? Threatening an old man who is running a business with speeches and simple slogans about the Israeli-Arab conflict? Is this Islamic adaab kayda?
Do you honestly think the owners/employees at Sabar Bros care? He will certainly go on stocking Israeli and other products as soon as MPAC's attention wanes. There is no need for him to give into vigilante intimidation. I say he informs the police of what has been going on.
abdullah:

May Allah reward the brave Islamic warriors that fight for justice and peace. Muslim brothers and sister must continue to fight back and defend our rights and show the supporters of Zionists that we will not lay down and be tread upon by them! Slowly but surely people are beginning to see the light, every little bit we do to help the Palestinian cause goes a long way. I would like to thank MPACUK for there courageous stand, I will pray for all fellow MPACUK members and supporters. Brothers and Sister I must also make you all aware that the Israeli sponsorship deal with Arsenal will go through if we do not crank up the pressure. I would like to take this opportunity to remind pessimists that Israel approached Juventus and AC Milan on this issue as well, they agreed but later changed there stance because of the pressure from Islamic organizations. So Arsenal can be persuaded to ditch the sponsorship deal with the racist apartheid Israel. I have noticed that websites such as www.inminds.com ask for us to write letters to kick it out and Arsenal, but we must complain to the FA as well. Could MPACUK please publish another appeal/article on this issue? Jazaak Allah
Thanks Again
booo hooo:
ooohh call the police
idiots are calling me and asking about dates
hmm:
Then Iqbal, he be done for verbal abuse/assault. You yet to see what one pound does to children in Occuppied Palestine.
If one is old enough to run a business then they are old enough to face the truth.
Jaroeme:
i totally agree with you Iqbal. Talk about double standards!
farnaz:
it is very good what u did with sabar bros. i think we all also should boycott nestle products coz they are the biggest isrealie distributer.plus go to www.inminds,co.uk and they will give u alist where u can boycott companies that support israeli apartheid. we all should make a consious effort to start at home first.
Why not:
yes why not call the police.
sabar will be sued for verbal abuse to customers, and the muslims will stand by accusing each other of being guilty. only a few ill manered customers and a few sabar emplyeee will be sued
while everyone will all laugh at us monkeys.
its not illegal to call a store and tell them what they sell is haram.
plz use your brains that Allah has given you
and make a flipping change for the ummah and your ignorant brothers whom you defend but never get your behind up to teach them
or have you women got a problem with mpac, why don’t you be clear with your agendas and stand to your principles instead of lurking around like snakes
complaning about everygood thing they do.
by all means complain about the bad
Solaiman:
Serves the sellout right. I hope his business goes down, just like the houses of the innocent Muslims, an act which he is 100% cimplicit in.
Sabar Bros, more like Sabar Traitors.
Quit whining:
Iqbal, you're pathetic...read all your comments...quit whining, you're so quick to label MPAC, vigilantes...threatening old people...do you permanently reside your own hollyoowd movie land? don't use islam to your own ends, you don't know the intention of another's actions..what MPAC have done, and what i hope they continue to do is fight back for those that can't..how about you do the same, or if you can't be asked, just shut up and let them carry on with their fab efforts.
Dan:
You do realise that by giving the shops details you are putting peoples lives at risk as as most of your supporters are concern no one's life matters as long as they are not muslims
Mike:
Those Israeli dates are very tasty, I look forward to buying more from Sabar Bros.!
Aamir:
Please make sure that Muslim shops are not flooded again with Israeli dates.
Africana:
I had the same reception as the moderators.
I explained to the individual that it was a poisoned product=killed many Palestinians, created many orphans, many pregnant women returned home with their tiny corpse killed at the check point, old men were beaten, shot at, you know the Israeli methods & their atrocious occupation.
Looks like they know the producers very well. glad to be part of the Ummah taking action
shocked_muslim:
As an educated muslim i'm quite shocked at your tactics. There is a right way and a wrong way with contacting the store owner. Whilst your heart may of been in the right place, the fact that you tried to shame the workers in public, i think that is wrong. These people are doing their jobs. Perhaps you wanted to add fuel to the fire and this was your tactic in order to gain support. The right thing would have been to contact the manager by writing perhaps, to allow them to read it in their own time.
I notice you slander the company first, post their details and then add a solution to it - havin spoken to the manager. Well if this is the case, why not remove the post? Why leave the companies details there. I'm sure the owners must be fearful that someone out there might now have it in for them, courtesy of you. Are you proud of your actions?
Islam is a peaceful religion - which aspect of your postings are peaceful. Peace has come so remove the post. I can't imagine what type of an image non muslims are getting when they see posts like this.
If anything the good deed you felt you did, has been overshadowed by the way u have practically bullied this company and its staff. I don't expect you to see this, i do expect you to dislike what i say and judge me as a muslim. Please feel free.
The phone companies - its their fault for givin so many free minutes :-) (jokin).
Ismail:
If you do not like to buy a certain product you are free to boycot it. If somebody will continue to sell it, you can protest against it. But using this small shop as a scapegoat for state terror is a bit far fetched. The EU has an association pact with Israel allowing humongeous trade benefits despite their peace record. Lately Germany has given (YES GIVEN) Israel 3 submarines capable of carrying nuclear missiles, so what is the point of looking at small fish when you allow the big fish to swim freely....
