Liars Exposed: Only MPACUK and MCB Engaged With The BBC! Print E-mail
Sunday, 07 May 2006

MPACUK have been countering the pro-Israeli lobby for many years now and we have continued to demand others do the same within the political and media arenas. For far too long the active pro-Israeli lobby has ensured the media have been reporting events from the Middle East unfairly, with little objectivity and impartiality when it comes to the conflict. So when the BBC commissioned a review to look at their coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, MPACUK took the initiative to not only submit evidence to the BBC, but to also run a national campaign urging ALL Muslims, groups, Mosques, etc contribute too. We rang and emailed many groups and Mosques informing them about this media Jihad and in return the majority promised us they will fight in defense of Palestine. However, it has been uncovered now, according to the Governors report that only 2 British Muslim groups contributed – MPACUK and the MCB (who were already invited by the BBC). This leaves us quite concerned and slightly baffled…does this mean to say that all the groups and Mosques that promised to act in defense of the Palestinians simply did not do so?! MPACUK hold to account all those groups/Mosques that blatantly failed to rise in the media Jihad in defense of the Palestinians and the Ummah. For those who refuse to help whilst others are oppressed and humiliated should hang their heads in shame.

However, the results found in the review prove very worthwhile and promising. The report has admitted flaws and ‘misleading’ news reporting by the BBC, including failing to adequately report the hardships and sufferings of the Palestinians living under occupation. This campaign has proven to be yet another MPACUK SUCCESS via lobbying the media...

So there is no excuse - WE URGENTLY need to lobby the BBC to make sure the report leads to real improvements (we can be sure the Zionists will put in the effort to try to stop this!). Please write to the BBC to express the following points (in your own words):

  • Congratulate the BBC on commissioning the independent review of BBC coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian coverage - it has proved to be thorough and objective, with excellent analysis and positive recommendations.
  • What steps will the BBC take to ensure that future coverage clearly conveys the inequality between the two sides, the facts of Occupation and the reality of Palestinian suffering?

The BBC feedback form

The Guardian report :

The BBC's coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is "incomplete" and "misleading", including failing to adequately report the hardships of Palestinians living under occupation, an independent review commissioned by the corporation's board of governors has found.

The report urges the BBC to be bolder in setting a policy for using the word "terrorism" to describe acts of violence perpetrated against either side and suggests a senior editorial figure should be appointed to "give more secure planning, grip and oversight".

The latest of several reports into contentious areas of the BBC's news provision, it praised the quality of much of its coverage and found "little to suggest deliberate or systematic bias" but listed a series of "identifiable shortcomings".

Chaired by the British Board of Film Classification president, Sir Quentin Thomas, the review said output failed to consistently "constitute a full and fair account of the conflict but rather, in important respects, presents an incomplete and in that sense misleading picture".
The panel, which also included former ITN chief executive Professor Stewart Purvis, said the BBC should not let its own requirements of balance and impartiality become a "straitjacket" that prevented it from properly relaying the "dual narrative" of both sides.

In particular, it highlighted a "failure to convey adequately the disparity in the Israeli and Palestinian experience, reflecting the fact that one side is in control and the other lives under occupation".

On the emotive issue of whether acts of violence perpetrated against either side should be called "terrorism", the review said the BBC should use the term because it is "clear and well understood" and that once it had decided on a policy for the correct use of language it should be more consistent in applying it.

Like other major media organisations, the BBC regularly deals with a flood of complaints from both sides.

An internal BBC News review, led by senior editorial adviser Malcolm Balen, led to greater resources being allocated to the Middle East and the appointment of a specific editor, veteran foreign correspondent Jeremy Bowen. But the review said more should be done to provide a stronger editorial "guiding hand".

The BBC should do more to put the conflict in context for viewers, it said. This could include doing more to direct viewers to resources offering more depth and background. Too often, it suggested, news stories were chosen on the basis of the pictures available to accompany them.

salaam,

So where were all the Palestinian support groups, who claim that they have been set up to help them. Ironic isnt it, How they make a fuss when a palestian child is murdered by an Israeli terrorist, but then does noting practically to help.

where was 'freinds of al-aqsa' and other such groups. Its beggars belief that no other muslim organisation wrote in.

Why is this? our prorities have gone wrong somewhere along the line. Or we dont understand how we can truly make changes in the world.

Just take this simple example, BBC through this consultation they have actually recommended some postive changes, to a multi milliom pound media corporation funded by the public. This is a result of only two muslim organisation and I'm sure some concerned individuals too. In my Eyes they are the true mujahids. Think about it they have just done more for the palestinians than any other organisations in the last 50 years.

As you all know it is the media that rallies and informs the mass. If the recommendations are in place in the bbc just imagine the effect in 5 or 10 yrs time, what the public percetion will be, knowing the truth about Israel and Palestine.

If only other Muslim organisations did write in, and the effect that would have had. But they're too busy playing village politics and measuring the length of thier beards.

I dont think this will change in the near future, as most of these organsiations are still run by 1st generation muslim who are uneducated or thier undestanding of islam is heavily influenced by culture.

Mpac must start educating the true nature of Islam to the 2nd and 3rd generation muslims.

Mpac is the msulim defence system.

While I whole heartedly support the need for better reporting from the Middle East, I was disappointed on Thursday evening by the appearance on the BBC of an American "consultant" who was presented as an informed expert. This young man is a person whose credibility has been questionned by a number of groups on both sides (Israeli & Palestinian) and whose personal claims do not stand up to scrutiny. His appearance only afforded him an opportunity to promote his business interests, and did not contribute anything positive to a better understanding of the issues.
The BBC needs to draw upon Palestinian reporters and activists, like Ameen Mansour, that have credibility and a proven track record, rather than White Anglo-Saxon Protestants who use the conflict for their own ends. The last thing we need is old school imperialists speaking on our behalf, filtering our voices through their own narrow and often prejudiced perspectives.

if you seriously expect anyone to believe that the 400 so called Mosques that the MCB represent even knew about the report you must be the biggest liar of them all.

They cant speak english, they cant read so dont tell us that 400 mosques were behind the report.

You want the truth - mcb did it, the 400 mosques dont know anything about it. Getting off the hook by saying "oh im part of the MCB" - they did it just shows how pathetic they really are.

Ask the mosques why "considering they are the affiliates of the MCB" they have never lauched a campaign in their entire pathetic lives to defend the MCB, they will tell reply "no one told us to wake up and do anything?"

Dont try to defend the idiots at the mosques please, and no excuses and slander will not do. Muslims deserve action from their leaders.

So is that all there is? 400 Muslim orgs in the country?

I bet you were one of those 400 orgs.

I bet you never rely on MCB to collect money for your org?

I bet you never rely on MCB to sort out your Nasheed concerts?

I bet you never rely on MCB to organise your parties?

Yet you rely on MCB to do any proper work.

You are an embarrasment to Muslims!

Way to go MPAC and MCB!

Ali,
As I have written previously we need to be very careful of those western "allies" who claim to be fighting on behalf of the Palestinians and Muslims generally. Many of them are victim junkies who get some bizarre sense of enjoyment from hanging around victims. They want the victims to stay victims, and hate it if the victims stand up for themselves. It is a game for them - little more than a way of passing the time. Once a year they will buy a bottle of Palestinian olive oil and think they are revolutionaries - but the rest of the time they buy whatever's cheap in Tesco's.
Before 1967 the victim lovers hailed the Jews as victims, and Israelis as long as Israel seemed weak and defenceless. Ever since 1967 they've hated them.
We don't need these people in the first place, and in the last instance they will always hold us back. They don't care who suffers; Palestinian / Israeli, man / woman / child - so long as they can feed upon the misery like vampires!

Stop with the public bitch slapping girls! The point is that we are a disjointed community, if only we could be more organised and thorough when it comes to defending Muslims. Why does it always have to end up in a "them" and "us" rant.
I was so pleased when I read the Guardian article last Wednesday when it was published. I wasn't aware that MPAC contributed to the review panel's findings. We should congratulate MPAC, MCB and all of the other organisations that contributed. The result of the review panel's findings flies in the face of the rubbish that we have to constantly endure through our media channels. I am just glad the BBC showed enough reason to commission this review.

I remember speaking to someone frm a muslim org (won't mention any names) when this campaign was ongoing...they seemed more interested in an upcoming demo rather than actively defending palestine - Typical!!

well done mpac for doing more than just make noise without practical solutions.

Ant to all those affiliates of the MCB - shame on you ! This was the perfect opportunity to mobolise in huge numbers (400!) and defend palestine but instead they didn't even bother to do anything!
