Ariel Sharon stated that the lesson of the Holocaust is that Israel should always be a dominant military power (Yad Vashem, 4/5/05). Is this the lesson that the Muslims attending the official Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony today want to promote? MPACUK have exposed the political agenda of those who lobbied to get the government to hold an official publicly-funded Holocaust Memorial Day, and who refused to allow other victims of genocide and war crimes to be remembered on an equal basis. MPACUK has made many calls to Muslim Leaders to find out exactly who is going to the Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD). More and more Muslim groups told us they would not attend the event. Muslim Groups who have fought for Palestine have pretty much unanimously unified around the MCB’s principled stance and boycotted the official event.

The Who's Who Of HMD

A simple glance at the list of trustees responsible for the HMD should be enough for any Muslim leader with an ounce of political awareness to see that the official HMD is not not a simple commemoration for the victims of the Nazis. HMD trustee Louise Ellman MP is a senior member of Labour Friends of Israel, who publicly supports the Israeli state’s policy of murder. Ellman has used her position in parliament to attack any mainstream Muslims who support Palestine - Sheikh Qaradawi, MAB and MCB have all been singled out for her smear campaign. She has secured no less than three Parliamentary debates on what she calls "Arab anti-Semitism", but when it comes to racism against Arabs, Muslims, or any other group she is extremely quiet!

Then there’s Harry Grunwald, the president of pro-Israeli lobby group the ‘Jewish Board of Deputies’. When he’s not organising HMD he is lobbying the police to prosecute Muslim scholars and trying to shut down British Muslim charities that provide humanitarian relief in Palestine. Then there’s Rabbi Barry Marcus who is responsible for the Israel portfolio in the Chief Rabbi’s cabinet and has denounced a call by some British Jews for Israel to dismantle it’s illegal settlements as "distasteful and misguided" (Jewish Chronicle 5/4/02).

LATEST STOP PRESS: At this year’s HMD Event at London ’s City Hall, Rabbi Barry Marcus used his speech as a platform to attack not only Iran but also his host, London's pro-Palestinian mayor Ken Livingston. (Jewish Chronicle 27/1/06). MPACUK ask, is this not further evidence that the HMD is used as political propaganda! And how dare they attack us for not attending! To those 'Muslim Leaders' that attended and had first hand experience of this event, how many agree with the Rabbi's statements?

Then there’s Ben Helfgott, a fierce defender of Israel who justifies unquestioning support by conjuring up the spectre of another Holocaust: "When I heard this person say Sharon is a war criminal everything in me started burning… Today it is not just the State of Israel but the whole of world Jewry that is at risk" (Jewish Chronicle 21/6/02). If anyone seriously believes these Zionists are organising HMD in order to promote human rights for all (including Palestinians and Muslims) then they’d believe anything.

Knowing how the Zionist lobby works, we knew that they would not allow their HMD propaganda event to be boycotted without a major offensive. Their problem is that they are dealing with Muslims - a community is harder to fight even if it is an ignorant one.

The angle they have taken is then to split the community.

As usual you always get a few dopes that jump right into the game plan of those who are trying to harm us. They get pay-back in the way that they look "more moderate" as opposed to the "extremists" who oppose it.

Well done, pat yourself on the head little Muslim Leader and go make the tea.

So-called "Prominent Muslims" and "Muslim Community Leaders", who let’s face it are often nothing more then self-publicists, seem to be the people who are demanding we go. From the many calls we have made to various individuals, the very few so-called ‘Muslim Leaders’ who have defended their attendance have one argument.

"It looks bad if we don’t go." Well, Muslims are also given a bad press for everything from hijab to halal meat - does that mean we should abandon everything we believe in so that we can please our attackers?

The only reason why Muslims will look bad is if, (a) They are too stupid to articulate a reasonable argument. (b) The Zionists will abuse their positions within the Media and attack us for not going - in which case it doesn’t matter what we do, they will attack us for something else anyway until we agree with Israel on everything!

Listening to these Uncle toms speak is very revealing. For example the other day, a so-called ‘Muslim Leader’ on Radio 4 actually claimed that, "the Holocaust Day must not be politicised by Muslims, and not connected to Palestine." Did he actually know how the Zionists abused the tragedy of the Holocaust from the start as a propaganda tool in the political battle to take Palestine away from the Palestinians? Its a historical fact. A fact they didnt know.

Then this so called Leader had the cheek to blame Muslims for politicising the event!

"If Jews (of the diaspora) have to choose between refugees - saving Jews from concentration camps, and assisting a national museum in Palestine, mercy will have the upper hand and the whole energy of the people will be channelled into saving Jews from various countries. (He meant that Jews would be rescued and given sanctuary in lands other than Palestine). Zionism will be struck off the agenda not only in world public opinion, in Britain and the United Sates, but elsewhere in Jewish public opinion. If we allow a separation between the refugee problem and the Palestine problem, we are risking the existence of Zionism." David Ben Gurion, Prime Minister of Israel*

Read that a few times. The link that Zionists realised even as the Jews were being murdered in Germany was clear. In the world of real politic the Zionists made this bitter equation.

There wouldn’t even be an Israel if Zionists hadn’t politicised the Holocaust! Yet most of the ‘Muslim Leaders’ who attend the HMD are totally ignorant of politics. They become pawns in Israel's strategy of domination and humiliation of the Ummah and the Palestinian cause - without even realising it! If these Uncle Toms could read more and talk less, they might not sell us out as quickly. Muslims did not politicise the Holocaust, we are the victims of its politicisation.

Now Zionists and these Muslim Leaders blame the victims. Maybe you think we are harsh - "our leaders are sincere, and you can’t expect them to understand politics". Only Allah knows what is in people’s hearts but everyone can see with their own eyes the harm done by Muslims who support the Zionists for whatever reason. Those with an ego may be hurt by being held accountable, but when the lives of our brothers and sisters in Palestine are at stake we are not going to spare people’s egos.

On this 61st Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp we won’t be taking lessons from Ariel Sharon and his allies, but from the brave Jewish academic, and son of Holocaust survivors, Norman Finkelstein:
